Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT Power) System Help (1 Viewer)

I've searched on the forums many times using different terms and can't find any helpful info. By ECT I am referring to the ECT power switch on the dash that changes your shift pattern - not Engine Coolant Temp.

1994 FZJ80 US Spec, 108k miles.
My ECT switch worked until recently. Lit up light in the cluster when on and I could tell a difference in shift patterns. Thought it might be bulb in the cluster so changed that. Still does not come on and performance does not change at all when the button is depressed. It could be a bad switch so I was going to try that next.

Anyone know what other components there are to that system that I should check? I can't seem to find an fuses or relays that are specifically for that system.

It runs through the gauge fuse so if your other lights and gauges are working it’s not the fuse. It’s probably the switch that has failed. It’s 30 years old. I’d start with that.

Thank you, I will try that. I found there is a transmission control module and a relay - but seems that if either of those had gone bad the transmission would be goofy, it's not.

When I first got my vehicle, the switch worked intermittently. Pushing it several times got it to work consistently. I have had success using electronic contact cleaner in other applications, it might be worth a try. Just make sure it safe for plastics.

Thanks. To do so, can the switch be removed from the dash, or must one remove the dash to access the connection?

Mine is near the shift levers. (97 LX450).
That said, I'd first try using the "straw" nozzle attachment to get as close as possible without removing much.
Spray, push button. Lather, rinse and repeat.
Worth a try. Won't fix cut wires, etc.

Perfect. That, with some squinting and mumbling, is my first plan too.
