I've been needing some stuff from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters, he had mentioned some time ago that he was looking into getting a bunch of stock turnbuckles.

Is that still a plan Kurt? Haven't heard from you in awhile in this thread. If so, that was the avenue I was going to pursue.

Anyone have the toyota number for them handy?

I can't imagine CDan can do any better on the price than he already gives us as MUD members. If one person coordinated it, you might save a few cents on shipping.

I just bought the last 74 that CDan had anywhere including 36 coming from Japan. Who needs them? (besides me)

BTW, who can tell me the correct number to use for each top? I have heard 10 (4 per side, plus 1 on each side of the windshield) and CDan told me that 22 are required. So what's the correct number...JohnnyC??

I will sell them at cost and include them when I ship your top. $5.40 each. They come primed for paint.

oem came 4 per side and one on either side of windshild as you said (for like 74 and earlyer) ....although i have seen latter ones with 6 per side (7 window) (like 75 and newer)


Old Kayline came 10 per side and two for windshild ....early kayline...latter kayline was snaps on the windshild....if you used to have a kayline replacement top on ....you only need 7 per side to fill the holes out....the rear corners have straps...not twists like the kayline has.


You can use the holes for your old tops that you guys may have had for snaps like a bestop ...i would go this rout...just count the holes.

mine has 7 perside and i have snaps on either side WS....as i used to have the kayline replacement top.

if you are looking for factory correct...get as stated above

Cdan is coming up with 22 because the replacement top was made by kayline...sold thru toyota....soooo....thats how many you need for a kayline replacement top bought from toyota.

Where on the windshield?? I've never heard of that before. I know my '73 tub has four holes per side, but there's nowhere on the windshield that a twist lock would go.

The outer most corner on each side. I'm sure JohnnyC will post a pic.

Count me in for 10. I have a 73 original softop tub & it is pre-drilled for four each side like stated above.

BTW are the ones you are purchasing screw attached (like in the photo above) or secured by a nut? My holes are all the way through so the screw style would not work for me.

Dang it all!!

So it was 100 on thermo today on Ft. Bragg NC and I was just thinking about how I could use a soft top for my LC and would check on the order. Sounds like I will pass it in transit. I'm on my way to Afghanistan in 2 weeks and it will probably be on its way here .

Ohh well I'm only gone a couple of months, and I will have something look forward to when I get back. One good thing about NC in this situation is that it is only HOT and REALLY HOT here. No need to ever really take the thing off.

South Boston...If you don't here from me when it is time to ship off just give me a few days. Not sure if there was a group ship/pickup with (krazychunuck...just down the road), but if so let me know, as I can drive down to his place and pick it up. I should be able to get to a computer every day but I might be off for a couple weeks here and there if it falls when you are shipping it. If I can take care of it online over there I will. Should be back NLT mid Aug anyway.

i am pretty sure however ehsan puts snaps in the top windshield corners of his soft tops? ( southie ask ehsan this) in that case you all would only need the 4 per side only


but....you may want 2 extra anyway....because they do get corroded after 10 years of DD and then the twist pops off...soooo it good to have at least 1-2 extra

I'll see what pics i have....for the most part....most tops were the snaps in the windshild corners...very early 40 tops had none, flaped over and thats it....early 40 tops had the acorn as far as i recall...a very few i have seen had twist....but i would seem to think the twist would be a better fastener for that spot
