Curious if anyone has an EGR valve laying around maybe from a desmog.
My 1985 fj60 is having the classic hesitation issues at around 2200-2800 rpms and im pretty sure it my EGR valve.
I have removed it and cleaned it twice but the hesitation still exists, although a tad a better.

Not to question the diagnosis J...
I just fixed my own hesitation gremlin that was due to a failed VSV. Far easier to test/replace a VSV than an EGR.

When I run the 60 with the EGR modulator capped off, it runs great. I tried 2 different EGR modulators and it didnt make a difference.
Would the vacuum advance still be a culprit?

@Beachcomber Bernie is saying VSV not modulators. Verify the VSVs are functioning correctly as well. Capping the EGR off just means that the actuation of the EGR valve is stopped completely. Hesitation is MOST likely due to the egr related circuits prior to EGR, however they would all need to be tested.

Just another reason for me to Desmog! 😩
 
I'll start disassembling my 2F this weekend in prep for an eventual V8 swap. Let me know if you end up needing something.
