Following. Is it really necessary? I've heard mixed opinions. Better to leave it stock if it aint broke, don't fix it?

Yeah I am in that mind set too. However I have had a few people say I should do it. If its somthing that will help keep my 1kz cooler I will do it. With summer coming I am trying to do all the things necessary for the hotter weather and driving on the beach. Other than the egr delete I have had most everything else done by me or the previous owner. (I might try and put the lower temp thermostat in there). I just really don't want to over heat my engine at any point haha. I am not having issues right now though so It might just be the whole if it aint broke don't fix it. Loving the factory bumper I got from you btw!

Oh good, have you replaced your radiator yet (if so, which one?) and have you done intercooler mod?

The previous owner put an aftermarket aluminum radiator with an electric fan that seems to work really well! stays cool. I could not tell you what brand it is. I actually didn't really like it when I bought the land cruiser. I even thought it was leaking but it turned out the lower hose was just working itself loose. so I purchased an aftermarket one thats closer to OEM but have not changed it out yet. I am planning on doing a timing belt and water pump change as preventative maintenance this summer when I am not teaching and part time working and I plan on changing out the radiator then. but then again its working fine just kinda ugly. I have not done the intercooler mod yet but I am planning on it. It would be really cool to do an intercooler like the later prado 90s have and maybe mod something for the hood. I have not looked into everything with that yet though.

The biggest thing I am going to change is the tires. I think the 33x12.50 are too hard on the engine on the beach here. I purchased some 235 85 16 tires that I think will be better in terms of daily driving and stress on the engine and drive train. I have not bought rims yet but I am thinking 16 inch steelies from a tacoma. (if you have input there let me know) I might go to a Dobsons stock height lift as well if the tires look too small with the 2 inch ome lift.

What all have you done to yours? I liked the videos you posted to instagram.

I went with Ironman's lift (constant load) I am super happy with the ride and the lift height, though I have to admit, if you don't need the clearance, the ride will be alot better if you can find a stock height replacement suspension kit. Gets a little squirrely lifted. I am planning some control arm drop brackets and panhard bar extensions that will hopefully help. Wheels are just some generic offroad 16" off road wheel by Vision. The tires are 285 75 16 General Grabbers. Spidertracks 1.5" wheel spacers to clear the calipers and pushes the wheels out to fill the fenders out better. I like my tire size, but agree, I wouldn't go any bigger. 12.5 maybe a little big for that machine.

Yeah mine is a little squirrely with the tires and lift. but its mostly the wide tires I think. I purchased with the lift and tires with the intention of replacing in the futures. Kinda a shame since they are new parts. but not my style. I like the old Land Rover pizza cutter tire look. I thought really hard about 255 85s on a 16 inch rim too. I really liked the OME stock height lift that was on my fj80. it was just stiff enough. It made the 33x10.50s I had look perfect. And I did not have to mess with a lot of the pinion geometry with those correcting bushings.

Here is mine next to @Shyrock Kzj78. Most of the work I have done you cant see though haha. Breaks, birfs, gaskets filters, bumper, undoing some unsavory off road light wiring, 2 days of pulling off ugly window tinting, those door light switches, some rust repair... you know the classic land cruiser stuff that breaks. Let me know when you do the control arm drop brackets Id be interested in seeing how that goes.

Yea, i agree. If it weren't for the wide flares that already came on this rig I'd prefer a more narrow profile and possibly stock height. I would choose 235 85 16" tires. My recent trip to Moab and doing some offroading down there has me kinda glad I went this route, although I'm gonna need lockers ASAP. Great looking Prados!

I'd highly recommend doing the EGR delete, it will help your engine run cooler and cleaner (intake, anyway). Assuming it is a similar system to the 2L-TE with throttle plates and a venturi body, you should gain noticeable low end torque from deleting those as well. Block off plates are really easy to make with some steel plate, an angle grinder and a drill.

Hi there, I have a Hiace with 2-LTE engine and want to remove the EGR system as many people have advised. Are there any step-by-step instructions on these forums?

Plating off the apertures at the manifold and air intake end is simple enough but I'm wondering what happens with the valve control on top and the vacuum hose connected to it. Also, are there any sensors in the system - and does removing the EGR screw up the engine management system? Etc.

Photo attached. Hope you can shed some light for me!

Cheers

EGR delete is definitely worthwhile. I did it when I first bought my truck and used the exhaust side blanking plate to fit an EGT probe. I’m not sure what it does for temps, but after 140k miles the mixture of exhaust gas and oil from the crankcase breather had deposited a few mm thick sludge inside the intake manifold.

Vanlife northwest who specialize in Hiaces with the 1KZ-TE sell an EGR blank off kit with the 1/8” npt already drilled and tapped for an EGT probe.

just block it with a plate and leave it all on there , it will still function as normal just no crap will end up in to your intake manifold, there is nothing to tell the ecu you have done this as well so no cel or any stuff like that

haha thats the very kit I was looking into! Hiace EGR Block Off Plate Kit (KZH Models - 3.0 1KZ-TE Engine) — Vanlife Northwest - https://www.vanlifenorthwest.com/products/hiace-kzh106-kzh100-egr-block-off-plate-kit-30-1kz-te-engine

Thanks for the response

I'm currently looking into the same thing, what are your thoughts on rerouting the exhaust side of the EGR valve to the intercooler? That way the EGR butterfly will continue to work as normal but with clean cold air.
I'd imagine bit would be an easy solution to the rough shut downs also.

Any idea if this would this work as intended?

As long as you leave the EGR butterfly there and leave the vacuum hoses connected it will continue to function and shutdown will be smooth.

Is the EGR butterfly you're referring to the butterfly valve in the intake? If it is the same as the one in a 2L-TE I'd recommend removing it, I found the engine made noticeably better low end torque after deleting the intake butterflies and it didn't seem to effect the smoothness when shutting the engine off.

Yeah that's what I'm referring to.
Any advice on removing it?
