Anyone interested in joining us Friday and/or Saturday of CM 2011 for some relaxed, easy sightseeing off pavement (We're doing the CM run to Chicken Corners on Thurs.)?
I spoke with RockRunner last night about our situation which you can read about here if you like(Brand New Rig, do we need to change/drop trails? - Rising Sun Member Forums). He also mentioned some experiences a few others, especially first timers, had at past CMs. Some members of Rising Sun and the Cruise Moab Committee also shared info. with me.
Instead of waiting until the day/night before or morning of to post on the board at camp to see if anyone else is interested, I'll try posting up now.
Suggestion:
1. Dirt roads and/or easy trails (rated 1 or 2?)
2. Emphasize scenery, history, photography, short hikes, etc.
3. Not official, sanctioned or whatever runs. No sign up, Just show up.
Please only respond here or PM me if you are interested.
If there is interest, we can work out details such as where to meet on Fri. and/or Sat morning, which dirt roads/trails, etc.
Thanks

I am on organized runs Th, Fr, and Sat but looking to do some easy sight seeing trails on Mon and Tues. You can also stop at the visitors center in Moab and they have all sorts of guide books and maps many of which you can also get on Amazon before you leave.

I have no trail run scheduled for Friday, the :princess: gets a bit scared on the more advanced trails so will will likely do some easy sight seeing. Picture frame arch, Gemini bridges or maybe hidden canyon something along those lines. If you are looking for an easy fun scenic drive I would recommend going out of town on Potash road to Musselman arch then up the Shafer switch-backs. Visit dead horse point then come down Long Canyon - Pucker Pass. :hillbilly:

I'm in a similar situation, my armored 80 is in storage in IL, and we are in ID and will be attending CM in my wife's 80 which only has an ARB front bumper, OME J's front/rear, and a factory hitch.

We're signed up for porcupine, poison spider, and hells revenge. I haven't been on any of these trails so I don't know what to expect. I was planning on making some sliders with the help from a neighbor, but he's been too busy. If these trails are too burly with likely rocker panel damage, I might have to do some easier trails.

I don't quite see how you would take rocker damage on Porcupine Rim or Hell's Revenge - if you are careful

Poison Spider is more difficult, although I have never seen an 80 (even stock) take damage there (been up like 7 or 8 times :meh:)

I've done Hells once, Porcupine Rim twice and Spike 5 times without sliders, zero damage.:meh:

I would love to do a easy run on Wed. If any one is interested. Something mellow with interesting things to see (arches, rock art, etc).

We'll be helping with tech inspection and registration all day Wed., but we're getting some good feedback here and on the RisingSun forum Cruise Moab - TLCA Sanctioned Event hosted by Rising Sun - Rising Sun Member Forums

so you should be able to find some good suggestions for roads/easy trails and some folks to join you. Enjoy.
