has anyone ever come across an early vehicle with a lap belt like this? if yes, any pictures?

the ends in the pictures below were taken off of OEM safety straps, identical to those you would normally see spanning the doorways. the ends seem to be a Toyota product with the finish and the fact that they are definitely "stamped out"

the shouldered bolt in the picture with it is off of the door jam

picture is from a '65 parts catalog

No never have. Only seen those for the safety straps across the doors. My 65 FJ45 has eyelets in the floor. My 68 FJ40 has the end of the belt has a plate with a hole that bolts to the floor. but it bolts tight. It's a intresting idea. Have a few of those laying around.

John do you recall if the floor eyelets are the same dimensionally as the eyelets mounted on the dash of a FST for the safety straps?

The eylets on my FTS dash look more like an eye-bolt.

The eyelets for the seatbelts on my '65 FJ45 are much smaller, but thicker.

I can post a picture Friday.

Here is a picture Sean of what is mounted to the rear wheel well of that 62 soft top tub I bought a few years back. I know this wasn't stock but if it isn't the piece Toyota used to mount the seat belts it's real close. The pickup also had a couple of these mounted on the rear bumper to secure a trailer's safety chains. I removed them and I believe they are in town. Plus this weekend I could get you pictures of the stock ones behind the seats in the 45.

John, do you have any pictures of original 3 lap belts in an early cruiser front seat? Mine had none, and I can't seem to find the middle bracket for the passenger seat.

Hey Dean, my 68 only had two lap belts. One for the driver and one for the passenger. The center didn't have a seat belt. These were still the original seats belts from when I bought it in 74. The rear jump seats did not have any seat belts until later. Not sure when that started. I've seen them on the long jump seats but that may have been a non-USA model that still got the non-rollbar model. So it could have been a post 73 model. The only original seat belt I have for the eyelet is in the 45 up north. Pictures this weekend.

That is what I thought...only two sets of belts up front.

Once it passes inspection, I will put in 3 sets, but first it has to pass inspection as stock as possible.

Four anchors on my seatbelt in the 66 I Believe the original two seat belts were red,old and sun bleached went into the trash long ago. on the jump seats no seat belts

Door straps and eye bolts were inside the tool box when I bought it.
