Early rear view mirror upgrade interest?

I'm trying to gauge interest in production of an upgraded early rear view mirror mount. Many with the old short style rear view mirror (see below) understand that they are nearly worthless. In an effort to keep my 65 FJ45 as close to stock as possible I'm toying with the idea of having some OEM style brackets made that are about 1.5" longer but would retain the factory look.

In my head they would look exactly like the OEM bracket but the lower protion would extend down about 1 3/8" to 1 5/8" lower to facilitate a position that allows you to see out of the mirror.

You would obviously attach your mirror to the new bracket.

Interest? Suggestions? I'll probably post to the 45 section too...

FJ25 and FJ40 thru 63 model years had this style and possible the 64s. Maybe Dean will post up he has a 64 FJ40. My 65 FJ45 has the next style mirror. I think the problem is more a FJ45 thing. On 25/40 the back door is further back which improves the angle over the 45 pickup which has the back of the cab alot closer. Never really noticed a problem in the couple FJ25s I've driven.:meh:

i have that mirror on my 65 fj40 factory soft top ( or pretty damn close )

Your's was a 64 production. I have a 64 VIN plate I took off of a 40 in a junk yard. Stamped 1964 as model year. Pretty sure it's 4FJ4023XXX, your's is 4FJ4022XXX. Toyota or their dealers had a habit of putting a title of a later year on their vehicle in the early years. A couple of my FJ25s are titled as 61s. Toyota never made a 61 FJ25. One of those 25 says the first time titled was May/1960:confused: I think when you posted the VIN in the paint code thread you added a zero after 4FJ40 right? Looks like a nice early 40 soft top from the one picture I've seen, anymore pictures posted anywhere?

Still doesn't mean the early mirror didn't come on any 65 models.

Same on my '64 (built end of '63). Sounds like a good plan Dom, but I do not think I will be needing a new one.

Nice work. I gotta figure mine out. I'd buy one of yours but my rig is a late model 45.

What do you want for them, Dom? I have a '63 & a '64 and the rear view mirror has always needed to be juuust a couple inches lower. Looks like you've nailed it.

Amazing that so many came from the factory set up so that they couldn't work.

edit: looks like half your inventory is now sold, eh?
