Early canvas tool roll

What am I missing guys. The metal tool kit for local market. The tool roll export. Both the FJ25 parts catalog tool section and the 63 manual page 37 answer the question what was in each.

Okay got off the phone and on to my netbook a litle bigger screen. This a smaller box. I don't have any metal boxes but I can't check to see but would the box fit in the tool area of a FJ25 along with the jack. Not really a whole lot of room in those with the large part open for access to the battery.

....I had one that came out of a '71......this one (if it is the same as the one I had) feels like vinyl. It also is not as comprehensive as the earlier one (no ballpeen hammer, no points kit).

pic#2 is one like you had...i think from 71'-72'

AFAIK it went something like this (maybe LITP knows more?):

Early Tool Rolls from the original Bj - 1968?
pic #1 1968?-1970 Canvas Roll
pic #2 1971 -1972 Vinyl Roll
pic #3 1972-1980 Stamping and colors went thru changes...bag shape was the same

Your right all three have a picture with the VIN starting with 3. Two of them have No. 6040 on the back. The third one has No. 97200. Haven't noticed any difference inside yet. Cover has more purple than green lines. Darker purple on top switching to a lighter purple on the lower part.

you have the darker purple graphics 6040?

these are the two I have, the purple green is 6040 also while the brown, yellow and red one is 6008

pretty sure that the very early tool rolls (pre-61) were export only.

The metal boxes (small and larger) came with the domestic (Japan) models only.

This would support the recent seemingly never ending sales of the larger metal boxes almost always from Japan. in talking with some of the veteran enthusiasts, even just 8-9 years ago, these boxes were rarely seen here in the U.S.

another interesting fact, the metal boxes never came with hammers.

Also interesting is the FJ25 metal box didn't the point/valve kit and only had five spanners instead of six. I wonder which spanner they didn't get. I guess compared to Japan a lot of the countries were more remote and could use the few extra tools. This is one case where I fell we got the better end. The canvas roll kept the the noise down.

Sean did you ever check to see if the larger metal tool box and jack would fit in the small area under the driver's seat that was tool box?

On the manuals all three of mine are like the one on the left. I do find it intersting that they show the large gas cap which was only thru 61.

I'll check to see if the larger metal box fits in the shorter but wider early (diagonal lid) 40 series tool box

john-

read my article in the 2002 toyota trails then you'll have your answer.

Still haven't been able to find the box with all my old Trails. Anybody have the article that could email it to me? Johnny?

Finally found the box full of my Trails magazines. Read the article and still a little confused. You must have found more info since then (65-67 tool rolls you were selling). I am also not convinced the metal box came in the pre 63 Land Cruisers into the US. My 63 FJ25 parts book (the one with the coverted numbers to the new system) shows a bag as the kit for export. Which I like since it was a better kit. I am also convinced the tool kit I have is from a 63. The owner's manuals I got were from 63. Plus the FSM that was in the same group of items was for a 63. The guy and his brother bought FJ40 at the same time (63?).

Must have either only had beige FJ40 to chose from or they both liked the color. The only thing I'm having a hard time figuring out is why they had five beige bumperettes instead of four. Lift to good ones with the 1970 FJ40 because it didn't have any pewer color bumperettes. Why he didn't have pewer ones and had five beige is confusing:confused:
