Hey guys! .. gonna look into a roof top tent for my 74. Anyone have load rating data for the FRP tops? They seem like they are built quite strong, but I need a minimum dynamic load rating (moving) of 165 lbs. and I would rather not find out that I am wrong as the tent hits the turf doing 120!!

Any opinions, facts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I personally would never attach anything to the FRP top. I just dont think it was designed for it.
Drilling holes and putting bolts through means all the weight will be sitting on 1-2 mm thickness of the fibreglass.
Eventually the bolt holes will elongate and you will get movement.
I dont know much about f/g but other things such as boats have very beefy reinforced sections where things need to be attached.

All the professionally made roof racks Ive seen in oz never penetrate the FRP
Maybe Im wrong but I do know FRP tops dont come along to often.

As Roscoe said, they really aren't designed to take a huge amount of weight.

I'd look into creating somesort of roof frame that attached to the rear bumper and maybe the panels.

There is thread that shows a few images of such an item which could no doubt easily be copied and modified for your needs.

One of the benefits of doing it this way is you can put some real weight up there;)
I had a pic of a BJ74 with a professionally built roof rack on the front page of 4WD Monthly but gave it away
It was a really cool 74 fitted out for an expedition into the interior.
Beanz do you have it now??:D

the down side is if you have that much weight on the roof the center of gravity is severly tested...
