God Damn it........... I just F-Ing give up

Not on FB, but somebody needs to get the NC Dept of Forestry and the NC Forestry Association as well as the Evergreen Packaging paper mill in Canton involved. If the facts are as presented, this has implications for all timber harvesting in NC.

Getting the forest products industry in NC, SC, and TN involved will get some serious action behind this ....

Implications for ceasing all timber harvest on Private Property is H U G E!!!!

Damn, just took my son the for OTMT on our first father-son wgeeling trip. So disappointing.

This truly is sad; I hope that they fight it! So I guess the government is claiming that he needs commercial permits for timber harvesting? Is that what the problem is? $350,000 is a lot of fees just to have permission to sell some logs that are removed peripheral to your primary business... Even if harvesting timber WAS their primary business, that's a whole lot of cash for a small business to be shelling out.

I think what the deal is, or at least how I read it, the $350K would be to go through the permitting etc to allow the wheeling operation to continue.

It also likely relates to a west coast federal circuit court case (9th I think) about three years ago that rules that forest roads (what we wheel on) are discreet point sources under the Clean Water Act which is making new roads (for lets just say logging operations) potentially more difficult to build. I have not heard of the case being cited east of the Mississippi, but it will get used eventually .....
