duraliner

i have a '95 4runner. one of the things i was planning on doing to it when time and a college budget permits is duralining the bottom 12-14" of body- much similar to the white and tan 80 series on the ih8mud classifieds. any advice on doing this yourself would be appreciated. also, lots of people who use it as bedliner generally apply it straight to the bed with no more prep work than washing it out really well- how important is sanding down the old paint with this stuff? thanks y'all

Never used the Duraliner before but, have applied the Upol raptor, Herculiner, and yesterday the Monstaliner. Very happy with the Monstaliner, easy to use.

All are pretty much the same. I highly recommend scuffing the clear or shiny paint down to dull. When it "white's out", you know it's good to go. Then clean the scuffed area with a cleaning solvent, etc...

Follow the manufacturers guidelines, all are a little different.

The sanding or scuffing allows the liner to bite into or adhere to a stable/strong base material. If you have any flaking, loose, or dirty areas on the application area the liner will not stick and eventually start peeling off. I scuffed approx the bottom 10-12" of my cruiser in less than an hour. So, it's not that much of a time savings. Just do it the instructed way.

Monstaliner hands down. I ordered the gallon kit for 134.00 I think but, you can get the quart kits now as well for smaller jobs. You can get colors to match your rig if you want to go that route.

Look for Magnetman here in the paint section. PM him with any questions. He's good to deal with too.

You can also order the color from monstaliner. They have a desert tan tint.

Check out their colors page. You can get five. Samples sent to you to figure out the rout you want to go.

that '60 you did with monstaliner- how many quarts would you say you did with it? does it require the use of a special roller like the duraliner does? if so does it come with it? thanks

I'd say 3 qts to match what I did on my 60 without doing the wheel wells. A full gallon doing the inside wheel wells too.

The kit from Monstaliner comes with everything you need except the paint/roller tray. 2.99 at any hardware store for this item. But, get two, one for each coat FYI.
