Im sure there is a write up on this somewhere. I cannot find it and I’ve decided to just ask. My intention was to piggyback this off of the accessory port in the center console. Any recommendations for the safest wiring instructions.

Funny, I literally took apart the interior yesterday and thought that would be where I install the dual USB port I bought.

I will be installing a relay under the hood - will pick up a 12v switched signal and send that to the accessory wiring in the center console. Allows me to have them separately fused.

You could tap off the original port in the center console, but keep in mind they are limited in total power capacity.

I brought power in directly from the battery to a Blue Sea terminal. I use it for my Ham and CB power. Also tapped into for this dual USB in that spot. Always on and the one I purchased has higher than normal amps so it charges very quickly.

Question: Did you tap the wires for the USB terminal into the 12V/120W wires?
No I was just in there to pull the CD changer. I posted the link so the op could have guidance on accessing the wires. I would either military splice and heat shrink or use the sopoby solderless terminals. The wires are small so depending on your application you may need to upsize

I believe they are wired together - I noticed a warning talking about not to exceed a certain wattage.

A PO tapped into the front port for the headrest screens - not a fan and I'll be rewiring, but can take the draw no.problem.

Ok so this was easier then I thought it would be. There are two screws beind the cup holder. Take them out first.
I didn’t.
See picture 1.

I used about 12inches of wire. Any less and the install would have been a pain in the ass.
Clamped it on and tucked it in.
Black to black.
White/black to red.

Works great. Don’t forget two small black self tapping screws for the mounting plate. Not illustrated(need screws).

Not impressive for those out there that swap out steering racks. But it’s a start.
And it works.

Though I may have broken my cupholder

Nice job. You will be ripping out the steering rack in no time :).

The cup holder is probably hitting against the wiring you just added, if you can, try to tuck the wiring around the edges of the trim so it avoids the path of the cupholder.

I tucked the wiring in actually.
Just can’t figure out where this piece goes. I know it has something to do with the cup holders spring back feature. Going to look for a schematic online today.

Way to go and get your hands dirty man! Only thought is invest in some quality primary wire... high strand copper. I like the wire from Power Werks... it is bonded, red with black. I bought a few rolls 20ga, 16ga, 12ga gets me through 85% of the projects on a vehicle.
