I have a 2006 gulf spec 78 series with a 1FZ-FE. I recently took a long trip and was monitoring the gas milage as at times I seem to have high consumption, and there is a fuel smell in the cab after the troopy sits a while. I realized while switching between the tanks that there was a big discrepancy. The main tank gives me about 15.5L per 100km whereas the sub tank clocks in at 21.75L/100km.

Any ideas? I recently changed the charcoal canister and was getting even worse milage before.

Hello,

Check your fuel piping. There is a leak somewhere.

The fuel smell inside the cab suggests that the pipe that vents to the body is loose or leaking.

Check the fuel tank caps. As they age, they cannot make a seal and leak.

Take the chance to replace the fuel filter.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I meant the fuel filter, not the oil filter. My mistake.

The breather pipe from the tank might be loose. The charcoal canister might going bad. Do you get a hiss when undoing the gas cap?

I think the other poster meant to say fuel filter, not oil. Assuming you regularly change your oil 😆

Hello,

Yes, I meant the fuel filter.

It is corrected.

Thank you.
