Just thinkin'.... What Toyota (or non) vehicle would nicely suit the needs of both:

1. an expedition vehicle. USA/Canada travel mostly, gas, not a rock crawler but able to get through moderate to hard-ish & often wooded trails. Pavement will be 2 lane back roads, lots of hills. Travelling alone or with 1 passenger. Outfitted to sleep inside if tent camping is not advised, maybe a hardshell RTT.

2. a tow vehicle to get a 40 or mini/4Runner sized rock crawler to/from events etc.

I wheel a 60 now so I doubt I'd be able to find a Toyota vehicle suitable for #1 that would do duty as #2 with a 60 onboard. (would need tow capacity up around 8000lbs +/-. , thus my thought to downsize my wheeling truck to a 40/mini). I currently tow with a Yukon XL 2500 and it is just too much of a beast for any trail work.

I'm not against a domestic SUV or pick-up but I'd really like to keep it all Toyota...

Thoughts?

Depends on your budget. Personally, I like the Ram Power Wagon. It's a 2500 so it can tow with the best of them, high output 6.4, 2" factory lift, front & rear lockers, factory warn winch.

Tundra was the first Toyota that came to mind. The standard cab linked above: It is AMAZING how much room there is behind the seat in those...almost like a second gen extended cab truck without the window.
