You want serious range:grinpimp:

It's a '79--the last year for the Trail 90. Both it and the ST90 are street legal. I hit 43mph in the ST90 yesterday during a test run. It's only a three-speed though. I'm hoping the Trail 90 does as well.

send me the parts so I can fix it, and we'll find out, won't we. :flipoff2::bounce::bounce2:

RogerDodger. (the parts are in Houston and I'm in BFE--they are boxed and will get shipped upon my return to Houston :flipoff2:)

The difference between the 650 and 800 engine is the cam. For the 650, the suspension isn't as plush, single disc in front and it doesn't come stock with goodies like ABS, electronic immobilization, center stand, etc. It's geared slightly more towards street than the 800, but overall it's not THAT much different. I think when I break :princess:, it's what I'll get. BMW quality dual sport, low enough for me and a big enough motor to not get run over by the local non-motorcycle-aware fxxxtards around here!

New 650GS has cast wheels, 19" front and 800GS has wire wheels, 21" front....

That too. :D What's better? I know it's cheaper to bend a spoked wheel, and a spoked wheel will still work with a broken spoke, but for 90% street riding, what's my best option?

In your case, go cast wheels (650GS) because they are tubeless and IF you get a flat.....they can be repaired on the side of the road with plugging, using "gorilla snot" kit and reinflate with CO2 cartridges :grinpimp:

What IS the range on that sucker? Your ass would fall off before you ran out of gas!

About 550 kilometres, holds 28 litres of juice, ass is numb after 100km....you just keep riding....

The 19 inch tire on the 650 is better for street. The 21 inch is an off-road size.

I meant the mag vs. the spokes. Isn't the size kind of arguable? Choppers run 21"+ fronts all the time.

Sure its arguable, and there are all types of exception, but imo the mag vs spoke isn't as relevant as the concepts behind wheel size .

Bigger tire climes over objects better. Smaller tires are better at handling twisties an high speed maneuvering.. IIRC its due to the rotational forces(?)... More lateral torque on a bigger spinning wheel(?)... Its a reason why sportbikes and supermotos have smaller dia. front tires (17"s in many cases).

Way too much effort, dude. I stood next to one. They're way short from front to back. Tall, but short. Never said they weren't great, or weren't fast. Just a little bike. Then again, i ride a 1500 that's not short, so really not much to compare it to. My old KLR seemed quite a big bigger in every direction.

I have nothing further to add, except I just picked this mamjama up from a friend this weekend who bought a newer KTM.

1979 500 XL500s. Runs like a sewing machine.

so anybody knows about these Zuks? :)

WOOT! The old lady finally said I could get a bike. I just put a deposit down on a brand-new, isn't even in the States yet, 2009 F 650 GS with low chassis. A couple of days before hand, I found out there is a new low version of the 1200 GS (non Adventure), but I just don't think I could talk :princess: into that. I'm really freaking excited!:D:clap::D

 Thankfully no.

I hope hope hope I never do.

I think the "two kinds of riders, those that have laid it down and those that are going to" thing is BS.

One reason I chose this bike is because it's SO easy to ride and it's so forgiving. I'd have to do something really stupid to crash it.

its for real i dropped my 03 ZX636 one day goin like 5 mph in a parking lot. it had snowed 3 days before and some sand and salt was still there and i hit it just right it seemed. I was pissed the bike WAS flawless!

then not even a month later i get hit by a jackass that crossed 2 lanes of trafic (he hadnt crossed the third one yet) trying to get onto the freeway and nailed my ass. I hi8t the ground at 55MPH it ripped the front forks from the bike, busted open the case, and destroyed all the plastics.

I was super careful with my first motorsickle.... but crashed and burned on a tiny tiny patch of sand on the road.. it was like I slipped on a banana peel..

yup.

the pic below is what mine looked like only mine was red and had the LP relocated to in front of the rear tire, i had no stickers only the one on the tank that said kawasaki and it was in black. Oh and my windscreen was black.

bike topped out at 175 MPH. and handled better than a buddies 01 GSXR 600, would do a wheel stand at 90 just by sticking it in 2nd and hittin the throttle with no clutch required. I loved it, and realy realy want another. my only complaint is compared to the GSXR and the R6 the seat is the most uncomfortable for longer rides.
