Hi there

Being new to the forum - I am probally discussing things which have more than likely been talked to death about before.

I am thinking of building up another rig - the main reason is the BJ73 is not really family orintated (even though its our second car).

What has prompt my e-mail I have seen many different variation of modified cruisers within Australia has any one seen any good dual cab conversions for the humble 70"s eg 73-74-75-78 etc.

If people are able to post pictures I would love to see them.

A friend of mine has just purchased a 75 series (Aussie) tray top (ex Electricity trust - with extended chassis) very cheaply ($2500.00). The body is fairly rough &rusty but the power train is Chev Diesel V8. He is contimplating putting a BJ73 (which I have a spare body) on top to make it a dual cab with the standard tray fitted - any one seen any of these.

I have also been told (but havent seen) they also make a conversion (not in Australia) of putting a third door in the side of a BJ73? any one seen one.

All the best

Wayne

dude,
get a 77 series and be done with it...
if need be chop behind the rear doors and tray the back...
cheers

Wayne,

This conversion is accomplished by purchasing a 75 series Troop Carrier (11 seater) and chopping the back off and moving it forward leaving you with 5 seats and a small tray behind. There are -many- of these in victoria and i'll see if I can find you one to take lots of photos of today. There's at least six here in ballarat.

From memory, there's only like 2 places that do it and one is in northern QLD.

We dont get them because the 15 year law has gone out the door. There has been a couple sneaked in while the legislation was being changed but not in numbers sufficient enough to have your heart set on one;).

This place in WA sell the best low klm dual cabs.Site is down at the moment but it will come back http://www.smithbroughton.com/
They are usually from open cut iron ore mines and are well serviced.
Here is one from last year,it needed a good clean but was in vgc and had 145000klm
1HZ PICS 002 (Small).webp

I know of at least one company in Austrailia that sells the rear cab to convert 7x series pickups to crew cabs. I looks pretty cool. I will try to dig up information and pictures.

Cheers,

Michael

Dual cabs cost a lot to build(I dunno why) and privately owned examples are almost non existant.
How about a 80 series STD. There are presentable privately owned 80 for around $15k
