Dual Battery Strategy

What threw us off I think is you said "Dual" when 'aux' might have been better.

I didn't know that 'dual' had connotations of two matched batteries Or is that the case? I find that 'aux' is often used to describe the use of the secondary bank in a matched set as well?

For dual batteries two matching batteries could be used or what most of us do, a crancking battery as the main battery and an AGM as an aux battery.
Will try to put the AGM battery I have in the car over the weekend. See if it fits.

TeCKis300, since you're mainly using one battery for all your needs it would be nice to have an accurate battery monitor. Take a look at the Victron BMV 600S/602S.

This is not your typical volt meter. It installs with a shunt between the battery and the load and measures amps in/out and so you can get a true state of charge reading, time left at current consumption, time till fully recharged, charge rate and more.

Get it and tell me how it works! :hhmm:

Does this battery fit in the primary battery tray? It appears the terminals are reversed. I'm wondering that since the terminals are in the middle of the battery, it would be easy to turn it around...

Terminals are not reversed. The picture (or your truck?) is just backward.
Fits incredibly well with the correct tray. Just enough clearance on all sides.

Too bad that tray is not being made anymore :-(

So, I guess I'm left with fitting a group 34 in the stock tray. Since I have a dual battery system, I really am not worried about less cranking amps over the 31.

Minor modifications allowed the 31 series to fit nicely...

Hey Jon,

I am confused.. I know that is another thread all together, but I thought you would place the Sears Marine 34 in the spare location. Why did you install in the OEM location?

I picked up my Sears Batt on Sat. (34 marine) and I am picking up a tray today from Christo. Gonna have to wait on the wiring..

btw, I was on the fence about the 34 vs 31 but that 31 is a beast.. Seems like the 34 should do the trick.

It is in the spare location. The 31M (pictured in my last post, not my truck) is in the stock location using Shaggy's Tray, the 34M is in the Aux position using Slee's Tray. I need to get some better overview pics.

Ahh, I should have looked at the paint color of the LC!

Yup that's a pic from my LX. Still need to finish the mount for a 34m behind my Ironman bar.
