Dropping Chev 350 in FJ60 (1 Viewer)

I am the original owner of a 1984 FJ60. I let it turn to rust, but have restored it to original color (blue)...looks sharp!!!
It runs pretty good...never had the heads off, but I have heard that dropping a Chevy 350 (or even 400) is pretty easy. Is that true? Has anyone done it with this model?
I am looking to improve gas mileage, smog (CA resident), and general up keep costs.
What was the cost?
