Hey all. Wanted to let everyone know that I have had good luck with my cheapo scanner set up. I ordered a bluetooth ELM327 OBDII bluetooth adapter off ebay. I paired it with my Droid (Motorolla A855) using the Torque app. It works very well and it cost me a whopping $32 total for the adapter and the full app. I am able to pull and clear fault logs. I can monitor and log any of the ECM data like coolant temp, MAF, O2 voltage, timing, GPS speedo, ECM speedo, etc. The app works very well. You can set up 7 different custom screens and display any gauge available.

SPAMMER! (wait, what??)

Which adapter, specifically? I've been researching this as well, but have read that not all bluetooth ELM327 dealios are the same...

Link 'er up :)

Very cool! How long have you run it? Is there anything you dont like yet or doesnt work?

I've used it for about a month so far. Everything works well, which is kind of surprising. I've connected to my 96 LX, a 95 LC, 99 Tahoe, 01 S10, 97 Jetta gas, and 02 Jetta TDI. I've had full features on all of them. I'm pretty shocked that it's worked so well. It's very powerful for something that fits in your pocket. The only thing that would be an issue, is the module protruding a few inches from the OBDII slot when your running it. You just need to be mindful that its there so you don't knock it off with your knee when you're getting in and out of the vehicle. I might relocate the OBDII port or turn it. I found this Cable, J1962M Right Angle to J1962F, 6ft - OBD2Cables.com too, that I might try.

Does it have tranny ATF temperature?

now that is cool! I'm going to order one and try it out with some of the OBDII iphone apps

I don't believe that anyone has figured out how to talk to these via bluetooth with the iphone. They only figured out wifi. To do this with the iphone, you would need a ~$50 app and ~$150 wifi obd2 adapter. :D Droid. :flipoff2: iPhone

I would be shocked if the iPhone didn't support SPP or an OBEX spec that would allow data transfer. The app implementation should not be that different between the droid and the iPhone.

I was thinking of making my own adapter and app, but this is pretty damn easy.

awesome thanks for sharing! (droid does woot)

I am going to try one out. keep us posted on your relocating endeavors please

edit: are you considering making a mount for your phone? I have been thinking about doing so with an old case, but hadn't gone too far with it. this will bump it up the list a bit

The ebay ad says 96 and up but you list it having worked for a 95 LC... wonder why they say 96...

'96 is the first year all cars had to be OBD-II compatible in the US.

Looks like the '95 LandCruisers already had it built in.

In NC it's also the year they change the emisions requirements for inspections. Since I'm '97 I need to make sure my check engine light stays off to pass.

yes, late year built models do have obd2. from what i hear if they were built early year, they don't.

My '95, with a FEB '95 build date has it.

Amazon.com: Motorola Car Mount Phone Holder for Droid: Cell Phones & Accessories@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21xFfJ%2Bt93L.@@AMEPARAM@@21xFfJ%2Bt93L is the car mount I use, which I bought at a local verizon store for $30. It works very well, on and off-road.

I'm pretty sure if the 95 has an OBD2 port, it should work. It was required of all passenger vehicles in 96, but some manufacturers used OBD2 a few years before that.

I am really thinking of going this route with the Iphone . No Wifi or bluetooth, and a bit pricey, but hopefully will work with older iphones that are dirt cheap now. Appears to be $100 for the cable and app. Not sure though what "gauges" it shows.

Nice find on the Droid app !
