yes, late year built models do have obd2. from what i hear if they were built early year, they don't.

95s were OBDII compliant, but not completely so. Not all of the monitors or data lines are enabled. If it has the data port in the fuse box, it'll read what it has through an OBDII reader.

I am really thinking of going this route with the Iphone . No Wifi or bluetooth, and a bit pricey, but hopefully will work with older iphones that are dirt cheap now. Appears to be $100 for the cable and app. Not sure though what "gauges" it shows.

Nice find on the Droid app !

That doesn't look too bad either. It looks like they are coming out with a bluetooth product too, and a more advanced version for talking to ABS modules and such.

Amazon.com: Motorola Car Mount Phone Holder for Droid: Cell Phones & Accessories is the car mount I use, which I bought at a local verizon store for $30. It works very well, on and off-road.

thanks for the tip, FYI anyone else using this info from the verizon store they are now $20 (same or cheaper than ebay), they're probably clearing out the stuff for the A855 droid

also notable that it doesnt stick at all to the dash, pretty much not to the guage shade area, but sticks extremely well to the windshield and sits in a pretty good/non obstructive spot

also yoop- I remember seeing in a scanguage thread that some people made a 90deg bracket to remount the OBDII plug in their 80, do you think this could work/clear the fuses with this unit?

Mine came with a pad that you can stick to the dashboard and mount the suction cup on it. I mounted mine on the windshield though.

Did they use an adapter or was there enough slack to relocate the OBDII plug?

Ordered the OBD to blue tooth adapter. I have owned a Droid since about day one and have always used the car mount too. This will be so nice for monitoring the actual engine temp. I am definitely going to remount the OBDII plug so that I can get the cover back on. Hopefully the bluetooth signal will be strong enough even with the cover on.

Yes mine also has the sticky pad, I neglected to mention that.

I did a couple of searches trying to find that post and no luck so far, but from my recollection they had enough slack.

One good tidbit to add to this thread that I did see though was that 95 was the transition time for 80's to OBDII and many have II but some are OBDI, the quick difference being the I is found under the hood rather than in the dash.

Bluetooth through the plastic should be no problem unless it's a drastically different transmitter, my radio stays connected to my phone from +20ft away from the truck

what does it take to get a bluetooth connection working with a computer instead of a phone? Need special softw or driver?

Well, I have a droid phone so when I saw this thread I figured I'd put it to good use so I just ordered the bluetooth adapter and paid for the Torque app. I believe it's $32 well spent and cant wait to try it out.

e9999, all you should need is a cheap $10-$20 bluetooth USB adapter. (like these Newegg.com - Bluetooth Adapters, Bluetooth USB Adapter, Wireless Bluetooth USB Adapters, Bluetooth Printer Adapter ) Unless laptop or carputer already has it. The OBD2 bluetooth adapter comes with some software, but I'm sure it isn't very powerful. Soooo, these should work fine with laptops.

Thanks. My latest laptop does have Bluetooth built-in already. With the OBD gizmo, would it be as transparent as getting the 2 to talk and the software knows what to do (like a phone and earpiece, say) ? Never used the BT on the laptop so don't know what's there.

I have seen some free ELM327 software out there.

took the phone/socket end from the motorola mount mentioned earlier, ordered these parts from mcmaster

5838K21
Phenolic Ball 43/64" Diameter
$3.42
93013A335
Black-Finish Aluminum Unthreaded Round Spacer... (i trimmed this shorter)
$3.39

and used some plate/threaded rod around the garage and made this

3M VHB'd to the dash (might have to epoxy when summer rolls around, we'll see)

phone sits in what I thought was ideal location, nice little shelf to base your hand on for fingerin'er. also enough clearance to plug in power or rotate vertical

now just waiting for the obd2 sender.. bonus is I still have the suction cup side intact so I can use in rental cars etc.

I haven't done it yet but your computer should be able to see it just like it sees a wifi network and you have to allow it to connect. from there the software should know what to do. I'll be trying this out for fun too when I get mine, could eventually do the lil cruiser computer in the long run

e999 - I have had to hook up some field equipment to our office laptop using the native blue-tooth PC driver and it is kinda like setting up a standard COM port. You can typically find this either through a dedicated application or in Control Panel, if you are running Windows. Not sure for Mac. Once you find it, you will assign a COM port to the BT connection and then the software will access through that COM port. This has been the most typical way I have set up BT connections on PCs.

Hope that helps.

That looks real nice. I might have to make one of those. Now its air-cooled too

Just purchased mine, great info, thanks!

PS - As a side note, not ALL 96 vehicles were OBD2 compliant, for instance, the 96 Honda Prelude. Honda actually paid a fine for non compliance rather than redesign the EFI system. In 97 the car went though a complete redesign and was fully OBD2 compliant. The 95 DSMs (Talon, Eclipse) were OBD2 compliant early just like the Landcruiser. I know this is all completely OT, but it makes for good bar talk.

I purchased one off Ebay however the bluetooth code was provided. I've tried the usual 0000, abcd, and 1234 but none of these codes worked. Can you please post your bluetooth code? I'm hoping one of the provided codes will work with mine. :bounce:

IIRC, One of those two codes worked on mine. :hhmm: I'd email the seller.
