Hello everyone,
Well this is my first post on this forum and I'd just like to say a big thank you to all who have posted before me for depositing their hard won knowledge in a place that allows me and others to gleen gems of wisdom that keep my truck on the road. I'm hoping that I can return the favour.
I've been converted from Discoveries as I no longer have access to a full workshop and a day a week to keep the truck on the road! and have recently bought a 2001 Lc100. Which is great! I live in Oman so the truck does some fairly/very serious off road stuff mainly up mountains and through sand which is fantastic however the down side to living here is the lack of access to any parts. All parts would be second hand or brought over on the plane with me.
So, my question: The difference between Hi and Lo on my AHC tank is about 3 graduations. She rides hard on bumpy roads. Bled a bit of oil from each globe and its dirty but no air/emulsification. I'm unable to get my hands on pressure senors. Is it worth trying an oil change? This has led me to deduce that the globes be shot. My options to this problem are to try and find a smashed up truck with conventional suspension and swap it over, buy some new globes when I'm next home and fit them myself or, just drive on busted globes.
My concern with buying/fitting new globes is that that may just fix one part of the problem with another looming in the not to distant future. How likely is it that other parts have failed will fail?
I have no idea of the dangers (danger being I cant get it back home) of driving with busted globes however the springs look far too thin for what I ask of them and cant see them lasting long.
I reckon that she's probably done about 400K (she's had a new dash/odometer put in and 400K would be an appropriate mileage for that age out here)
I really like the idea of the AHC and with many a corrugated road needing to be driven over I think it would be great to have it working but realistically I need a reliable truck that can take a fair amount of punishment.
I've read up pretty extensively on the pro's and cons of conventional vs. AHC but my real question is how reliable is the AHC? If I replace the globes than what's the chances of another component also being faulty?
