Hey guys! I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I have a 86 Hilux with a 350 chev and T350. Lately it has been making a high pitched 'warbling' sound at around 60km\h, almost like a loose belt sound. If I keep engine revs and speed constant and knock it into neutral the sound stops. I was thinking bearing in the transmission but it was reconditioned only 7000km ago. The sound isn't there all the time, and goes away if I accelerate hard or over about 70km\h. On a different question, I also have a new shudder in the truck when I take off. I recently had new tyres put on (Mickey Thompsons 35's) and had everything balanced (2000k ago) and it was running smooth. I was going to take the rear driveshaft off and run it in H4 with just the front driveshaft to see maybe the rear had thrown a weight or something. My question is are there limits to how far or ast I can run in H4 with only front? Am I going to do any damage to it? Any help would be greatly appreciated

that does sound like a driveshaft problem. if you are using stock u joints that 350 probably eats them pretty quick. I have had all of my rigs at at least 60 in 4h except the pig, and as far as I know, there is no limit. they do say not to shift on the fly over 55 mph, but thats just a sugg. and not applicable to you anyway. Let us know what you find out.
Good luck,
Dan

put the rear axle on a jack. get the driveshaft to turn. see if its out of round. mune is so out of round i get a full body massage at 40 mph. (thats probly 60 km/h.)
you can drive all day long in 4wd. if you had a p.o.s. dodge, that mite be a problem.
