Looked a little for some info before I asked to no avail. My drivers side front window gets stuck in the lowered position, it seems to tilt forward and backward causeing the window to not roll up, squeaks and all that nice noise. I'm shure the problem would be obvious once I dismantle the door, but I would like to know if there is a common problem and a common part I can buy so I don't have to dismantle the door twice. thanks !

psj1945,

It isn't common but some people have reported that the glass comes off the rails. Dismantle the door and take a look. As I recall, the fix is very simple and just an adjustment of the mechanism.

I'm sure there is information in the archives here in the 80 section but any pictures would have been lost since those posts (that I remember) are pretty old.

POS window

Thanlks Beowolf :) I'll give it a go tomorrow and post my results.

So it gets stuck at a certain point when it's down? That could be the problem I have with my window...one of the teeth on the gear has broken so when it's rolled all the way up the window won't come back down.

mine gets stuck when its down, it's easy to see the glass shifting forward and back, kinda gets jamed.

same here, it's pretty slow to raise and I have to grab the top and pull it up.

Same here .... I try and Rain-X my inner and outter window glass frequently .. that helps for a while .

I keep thinking that maybe running power directly from the battery via heavier gage wire might help .

IAC , I make sure I turn off fans etc before attempting to raise the driver side . That decrease in battery load helps ..

I'm going in to take a look at it today, I'll let you know what happens !

I believe Rick (landtank) posted detailed instructions on how to fix a slow DS window by cleaning the switch. There wasn't enough current getting to the motor as I recall.

If you think this is a POS. Try taking apart a modern GM vehicle. Everything is riveted together and there are no adjustments.

I do see a major current drop when I roll up the windows. My dash lights even dim. Never thought about running a bigger wire with a relay though.
