My driver side window makes a loud squeak when going up or down. It does it only when the car is cold - after a few ups downs the noise would disappear but the next day it comes back again. Also, it seems to squeak only when the window is near the middle position.

I thought it would just need some fresh grease. Today I removed the door panel, cleaned and greased the steel bracket part where the scissor gear attached to the bottom of the window. No luck at all. The squeak was much louder once the panel was removed.

I could only tell the squeak was from inside the door. But I didn't figure out how to further tear down the door to access the window regulator.

There seemed to be a big hole under the foam. Is that what is used to access the window regulator?

Ideas and suggestions very welcome!

My driver side window is doing the exact same thing. I have tried tearing into the door, lubing the tracks, and clean and lube the scissor mechanism. No luck, loud squeak was still present. Curious if you ever resolved the issue!

My wife's 99 has has the same problem for at least three years now. I've completely torn everything down and lubed everything with no change. I even used dry silicone on the rubber seals at the base of the window frame to no avail.

they are in the low 40$ at partsouk. Add some other stuff to offset the shipping. 6815160032 Toyota RUN, FRONT DOOR GLASS, LH Price: 42.97$, Weight: 0.333kg - PartSouq - Auto Parts Around the World PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World

look at the exploded diagram. What in there would make the thing squeak or sequel? Also if makes the motor work harder, and could make the window come out of the plastic keeper a the bottom, or the keeper coming unglued from the glass. The run is also the first thing and probably the only thing that won't last much more that ten years. ALso it happens on the window that gets used the most first. Correct?

you can search, but people don't spell squeal or squeak correctly.

Quick tangent - partsouq pulls parts internationally as well, sometimes those shipping costs are astronomical. Pretty close in price this time around though!

The "runs" are what makes the 80 series Windows hardly go up and down. With the wife's hundred series it's screeching like a banshee once in a while. I lubed the run with dry silicone and had no change. That's why I'm thinking, at least for me, it's not the window runs.

Interested to hear if it works for you.

One way to check if it isn't the runs is to remove the window. On my LX I tried the track clean and lube without success. Removed the window and ran the motor/regulator and I'm still getting a squeak. Lubricated the regulator and still squeaking. Not sure what to try next. Maybe remove the regulator to clean it up and lube it up better. I know some ppl report resolution with replacement of the window track but I highly doubt this will work for me since even with the window out it is still squeaking. As another has reported after the window goes up and down a bit the squeak goes away.

I think I have solved the squeal. I removed the regulator and greased everything without any luck. Ordered a new regulator 27$ on eBay, would have purchased AISIN but didn't want to spend double when this was really more for diagnostic purposes. Anyway I just R&R the regulator. I noticed that the moving toothed semicircle on the regulator was getting pinched and a grove was worn into the metal. This was probably the problem. Why this happened eludes me. Might have been able to bend the metal a bit so that it was no longer rubbing during operation but wasn't going to attempt when I had the new regulator in hand. Before I put the regulator back in while resetting the pinch feature I noticed that the motor itself had a slight squeal to it while running up. I tore it down and lubricated it with white lithium and some silicone where I couldn't get to what was making the noise. It is back together now and the noise is gone. Was it the regulator or the motor I'm not sure. If the squeal continues I think my next step would be a new motor since there was a slight squeal with only the motor installed when going up even after lubricating it.

Did this work to eliminate the squeal long term?

I have the same problem and have generously lubricated the window channels with no luck. I am wondering if the semicircle gear on the regulator is rubbing as pointed out by @aharlan001 above? When the weather gets warmer, I may look at removing more door panel to check...
