Driver seat lever protrudes on 1984 FJ60

Hi everyone,
Recently picked up an 84 FJ60. The front seat feels lose and the lever to adjust is stuck forward. It still adjusts the seat but sticks out so far forward you hit your legs on it. The passenger one is nicely tucked under the seat but I can't figure out how the driver one can be pushed back. Anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions?

Pictures would help. Perhaps it's bent, or a PO modified it? It's very easy to remove the seat and flip it upside down and study what's going on.
