OK, my 85 mini feels like the drive line is binding, but only at full turn in reverse. WTF? I routinely back out of a parking spot at my post office and crank the wheels to the right to turn 180 degrees (in reverse). As I stop, I feel (and hear) a small 'pop' and it slows itself down. As I go forward, it seems like nothing is wrong and I don't hear or feel anything. It has a 3.5" spring lift on it. Do you think my pinion angles could be too high? Danged if I can pinpoint it.

Any help or ideas?

We are talking while in 2wd right? When going forward the (rear) pinion is twisted up a few degrees, and when backing up it is forced down some. If it's only happening while backing up I'd guess your pinion angle is right on the verge of being too low (as in it needs to be turned up more)

Here's some info on 4Crawlers site.

Good info at that link. Thanks for the help!

Anyone else have any input? ;p

Check the parking brake levers on the rear brakes. Sometimes they get rusty and don't release all the way, causing the brake shoes to patially engage when you back up.

I did think of this, but the parking brake won't keep the truck stopped on even a slight incline (forward or back), so I don't think that's it.

Not necessarily true. When I bought my 83, the levers were frozen at about the midway point. My handbrake wouldn't hold either, but the levers were forcing the trailing brake shoe out slightly, causing it to drag when reversing, creating a clunk and a drag, much like the brake was on (which it was).

Very interesting. So, what's the fix if this is the problem? IMO the parking brake sucks anyway.

Shawnee..........as in Shawnee Mission?

You can try pulling back the rubber boot and spraying them with PB Blaster, although if they're really bad, you'll probably have to pull them off and soak 'em overnight to free them up
