drain plugs still wont drain

i found the little slits on the rockers..the passenger is clear and drains fine but the driver side doesnt. i cant clean out the drain slit without bending back some kind of plate thats in the way(not sure what it is) might be a heat shield...its close to the exhaust. the back driver pannel is also holding water. it has completly rusted my jack and tool kit . where does this water come from. i know that the front drains from the sunroof but what about the rear?? thanks for the help guys

Water can come in from rusted rear window frame. Mine came in from damage to the body (a dent) next to the tail light. I sealed it with some ribon tape.

Just remove the rubber plugs on the rocker and leave them out.

there are rubber grommits/plugs in the bottom of the rocker panel you can pull out to drain the water.

it is likely the water in the rear quarter is coming from a leak in the rear sliding window seal which is fairly common. Fire a hose pipe at the window and see if water comes out inside the panel. if this is the cause possibly you have had an accident on that side which has distorted the window frame but you should be able to see the repair from the inside if that is the case.

The rear sunroof drain may also run on that side on a 92 (it is on the PS on my 93 but then so is the exhaust). Look for a clear plastic 1" tube in the panel running over the wheelwell if it is on that side.

If you have this problem and can't fix it you can drill a hole or two in the bottom of the panel and paint the area around the hole with POR 15 or similar.

it is very easy and fast to remove the interior side panels (on the 97). You'll then have a good view of the inside of the exterior wall, and should be able to see water coming down from the window.

well my main question was if i could leave the plugs out in the front and rear? then i shouldnt have a prob with them stopping up. i would replace them before getting into mud or going wheeling. do yall think that would be ok?

Either leave them out (i do) or drill a small hole in them and put them back. the small hole will allow some water to flow out with out allowing alot back in (stream crossing). But may ge plugged up from time to time and need to be cleaned. later robbie

Took mine out 3+ years ago and tossed em. Have had no issues related to water since then.

Sometimes water comes in around the clip holes for the quarter panel belt mouldings directly under the quarter windows.
