As I refine my design for a Cobra remote CB install, I figure I need a stock looking DPDT switch to switch the driver side tweater from the stereo to the CB radio.

I'd really like something stock looking.

I searched and found this thread -

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=2076

Which discusses using either a rear heater switch or a Camry switch. Anybody have any more comments on what works well for a DPDT application?

B - sounds like you've used the Camry switch? pics are lost after the site change. :(

Also has anybody installed a switch on the lefthand panel near the mirror control? Lots of blanks to punch out there, would these switches fit there?

Is it hard to get that panel off?

Thanks

Riley,
yeah I run the power toggle for the cb through a cheapie lighted switch on the left then send power to the cb through that. bummer is that you have to remove the whole dash to get to the blanks most of the time. you can try and hook them out with a pick but it is difficult at best.
I think just about any two way switch would work in this application.

I have both curved switch blanks above the mirror control filled with stock Toyota foglamp switches from the Japanese market. I have heard some years of the Previa in the US used the exact same curved switch. I recall access was quite good behind it without removing the dash.

Anyhow, you could pry off the foglight icon and make either a blank with a lit circle or get ambitious with an Xacto knife and cut your own speaker icon....

Thanks Dave. Perhaps I'll run the switch in the center section of the dash (it's easy to remove).

Since I'm switching the speaker around, I think I need a double throw/ double pole so that I can switch both lines to the speaker.

I hadn't thought about the power line.... I was just going to leave it hot on IGN.

btw... get that passport renewed and come up for a visit sometime.

What about something like this? From Hella but also found at Toyota part #00550-35976...

Thanks Matt, that would be fine.

Is it a DPDT switch (6 terminals)?

Riley,

Yes, but the pic Matt posted is the same switch I used. It is on the left side by the mirror control, mounted vertically. It is a SPST switch; not DPDT.

Pretty easy as I recall but I tore off some more of the crappy fake wood in the process.

Yeah i know I need to its just been pretty busy with the new job.
I like having it swithced independent of the ignition. dont know why but I like it that way. ignition would be easier but I had the switch left in the dash from the PO s POS brush gaurd with crappy old hellas in the dash already.
now that I think of it I have two of the switched off of the hella ff series lamps in the garage if you decide you want to consider a non oem approach let me know and I will shoot some pics.
