Door Hinges

I have searched and not found what I am looking for so I will post up. This is going to seem dumb to most of you guys but am I correct in my research that there are both soft door hinges and hard door hinges. I have a set of hard doors that wont work on the hinges on my 72'. The doors fit on the hinges just fine but the door wont close. What I am trying to figure out if I can just find a set of hinges that will work or should I fab a set that will work. I just hate to rig up something when I can find the correct fix. yes there are soft and hard door hinges..

what year hard doors are you putting on? got pics of the fitment issue?

I dont have pics, but the doors are 69 I believe the FJ is an early 72' The doors fit tight to the top just dont work with the hinge. I will try and get some pics posted. Is the hinge swap as simple as removing the bolts and swapping? Thanks

hmm.. those years should be the same parts.. maybe the hinges that are in the truck now are from a '75+.. yes it will be good to post pics of where exactly the issue is..

swapping out the hinges is not a big deal.. but you will need small hands to get at a couple of the bolts on the top hindge..


where does the door hit? why won't it close?? more expl;anation needed..

I believe the bottom one has been cut and was originally just like the top one; not a soft/hard top difference

Thanks guys I have the soft top hinges for sure. Do the hard door hinges stick out further? Just from looks it appears the only diff. is the top part of the hinge seems to be open and not closed. If that is the only difference the door still will not shut properly? I apologize if these are dumb questions just trying to get it figured out.

i run the soft top door tub hinges on my 74 fj40...hard doors and oem soft doors...the doors shut with no issues...but then again...i am using also the oem soft top door door hinges.

i may have missed it...but...are you using the oem soft top door door side hinges?

either way i bet someone would want to buy those soft top hinges from you if you decide to swap them out.. they're kinda rare.

Reply I got the doors off another member and they have the hard door door hinges, so after researching on here I guess im trying to make a match of two diff. hinge types. Yeah I have no plans of using soft doors so these will be available for trade or purchase. Thanks for all the help guys, if it wasnt for yall and this site I would be in trouble

why not just get the door side hinges from SOR...they are easy on easy off with the oem soft door hinges... maybe somebody here has a set

Maybe need to loosen the hinge side a bit and get some more adjustment
