My BMW N57 has a single variable vane (Garrett) turbo charger which works well throughout the rev range. Seems less complex and easier to replace a single unit compared to a dual when the day arrives.
Regarding I-6's, Mazda got the memo, BMW always did and so is Mercedes again. There are probably many more fine examples around.

Nah, just want to warn 200 owners to not be enticed into the 250, as they will be disappointed. It’s a downgrade in almost every aspect once the MPG argument was exposed.
Toyota’s advertised 22/25 mpg is on those banana peel 1958 tires, and you can expect 18 maybe 19 mpg (with required premium fuel I might add) with LCLC trim (stock) tires.
The ONLY good thing about it is the buttery light steering in a parking lot. Beyond that, there’s not much to be fond of.

Then again, I rarely agree with selling a Land Cruiser to buy a different Land Cruiser.I wonder if then new car buyers hopped in an early 90’s BJ73 with the naturally aspirated (dog) 4cyl and thought Toyota was hoodwinking them because it wasn’t a turbo diesel 6 cylinder performance of the same model year HDJ80. Both HD Land Cruisers fwiw.

A few years back my wife called me from the canyon above our house worried "the silver one is broken". I had taken her car somewhere and was running behind getting home. She decided my naturally aspirated diesel HZJ77 would be a suitable replacement. She loaded a hitch-bike rack and 3 girlfriends for a mountain bike run up the canyon. She'd driven around town in the 77 but never loaded up and headed to 8500 ft. She was worried sick that it was broken because it was billowing black smoke out the tail pipe but but not seemingly able accelerate or hold speed up the long steep grades. I figured she would be relieved to hear that was absolutely normal, instead she was annoyed we own something so slow.
Agreed. Why would a 200 owner who proclaims themselves a Land Cruiser enthusiast even consider selling their 200 to buy a 250? Even the earliest built 200 should have plenty of life left if taken care of.
It doesn't matter if the 250 sucks or if it's the best LC ever built, instead of visiting the Toyota dealership sales department to blow your money on a trade, you should be visiting your mechanic and having him set your truck right for the next 10+ years.
A Land Cruiser enthusiast buys, maintains, and holds. Wannabes trade them in for each new facelift / generation.

Enjoying the hell out of my 250 which my 17 year old son drove for the first time last night. He absolutely loved it. And I have told my wife we are never selling the 200. Well eventually hand them down to the kids, replace them with the next generation and I’ll have everyone in the family driving a Land-cruiser at some point.
