This thread has a tremendous amount of information in it for people NOT to “upgrade” their 200’s to the 250.
It is important for 200 owners to be aware so they know to not be deceived by Toyota into “upgrading” to the new “land cruiser” replacement.
Oh, the 250 is definitely a catfish rig for most people who have wanted a Land Cruiser for the longest time. For the people who did fall for the 250, they will look at previous gen cruisers and think that’s how they were all built. Toyota did a disservice to the Land Cruiser name by releasing the 250 without having the 300 to directly compare it against here in the States.Consider me still shocked any 200 Series owner bought into and executed on a 250 under the pretense it was an upgrade. Again, if the size, chassis and drivetrain didn’t give you enough clues, the price should have.
Ever been catfished?![]()
Waiting for Toyota to make the Land Cruiser Jimny. For real. Take "light duty" to the max. I would drive the crap out of one.![]()
Yep, 250 is a LC PRADO. The other day getting some oil filters at Toyota I sat in one and felt the doors and materials. Seems a poor follow up of the 150 series, certainly the GX460 was more in many ways. It feels flimsy like a RAV4. Do not know why you we would want one. This pretty much sums it up
700 h is sultryHold my beer…
Fun video & project. The “real” Land Cruisers on set were mine.
And driving someone else’s 250’s and 550’s fast in the desert is more fun than driving anything of my own.
Sorry for machine gun replies, finally catching up on this thread… and still not selling a 200. But, I did recently spend a week with the LX700h, GX550, 6thGen 4Runner TH, LC250 and TRDP & TH Tacoma's, camping/off-road Big Bend. The 700h OT could convince me to ditch a 200

I’m still irritated by it, and there’s a reason why LC 200 values have been plummeting while LX values have been holding steady. (Yeah I get cars depreciate, but this drop in value was largely due to Toyota selling out the nameplate to the masses. They ripped away the unique factor on these rigs.)
The Land Cruiser doesn’t mean anything special anymore. It’s just a common…

Given I have a 10 mile HE thats been in storage- I 100% would trade it for a lx700hI don’t disagree
Legit question. Would y’all trade a 42 mile HE200 for a 0 mile LX700h and sleep sound that night?
Right, but my point being, when people hear “I drive a Land Cruiser” they now think, “oh that 4 cylinder rolling disappointment that are a dime a dozen”? Where they used to think, “Oh, one of the most overbuilt cars on the road? Those things are legendary!”I disagree, I think most informed buyers understand that a $55k vehicle with a 4cyl and light duty chassis… is not the same as a $85k vehicle with a V8 and a HD chassis. Does anyone look at specs or climb under a vehicle they are about to purchase?
Keep in mind there are maaaaaaaaany absolutely thrilled 250/550 owners at current, many of which came from a 8x/100/200, but they understood what they were getting and perhaps what they were giving up. The shock is that anyone was shocked it’s a totally different vehicle.Engine specs, axle sizes, payload, tow capacity, dimensions, and finer details like seat fabric were discussed in excruciating detail at every Land Cruiser corner of the web.
That we can agree on. But given the sales numbers of the LC200 vs LC570, and availability of the LX600/700h including the front/rear locked OT+, the market for a 300 might not take off even if it did come here… and I’d be a 100% committed buyer. As I’ve said ad naseum, I hope the 250 checks every box for owners and Toyota, so much so that they decide we do need more than one Land Cruiser variant, 3 models and dozens of trims would nice.
Sorry, where and when did LC200 values “plummet”, I’ve not seen that on any long term trend since 2021 when the final new units were leaving dealers. They’ve only continued to retain value relative to age/miles and in many cases appreciate since that time. If anything, the introduction of the LX600 & LX700h should have had many LX570 owners turning in leases or upgrading (which it has) and thus lower the LX market.
The 55 owners said that in 1980.
The 60 Series owners said that in 1990.
The 80 owners said that in 1998.
The 40, 50, 60, 80, and 100 owners said that in 2008.
Shocking repetition. “Real” Land Cruisers have never existed in the US according to many global LC enthusiasts fwiw. Again, I think it’s dumb to think any one is king, they all absolutely suck at something. Owning multiple/many hedges the bet on which one you’ll be told sucks more often![]()

And yes, LC 200 values have been dropping comparatively more to the LX 570 values since they downgraded the LC nameplate, but not the LX nameplate.
So take a 2016 Land Cruiser. KBB says it dropped $10,297 in 2024.Haven't seen any data but this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. LC is the king of IYKYK vehicles. Those in the market for a 200 damn sure know what it is. They know it isn't a 250 and they're probably looking at a 200 because they don't like the 250. Watering down the name plate I'm not buying. If anything prices should go up as a 200 is basically irreplaceable now in the states.
So take a 2016 Land Cruiser. KBB says it dropped $10,297 in 2024.
2016 LX 570 for comparison, shows it dropped $6,307 in value in 2024.
These are average numbers, but the spread between used LC and LX values are coming closer together each day a 250 is sold.
LC had a price premium because the name meant something. It doesn’t anymore. If anything, I see the LX holding its value better because Toyota didn’t cash out on the name.
