Any advice on what type of dog bed to upgrade a tired 7 yr old Orvis bed? Sydney is a 4 yrd old, 80 lb Lab - seems to LOVE sleeping on my bed (only with the doggie barrier blanket ON TOP OF the comforter) . Her bed is okay but will probably be moved downstairs to the tv room. I know there are many dog lovers in the mix here...thanks. ;)

Crib mattress.
Covers are cheap and easy to find, just buy matress pads and sheets from Wal Mart.
The plastic won't hold odors.
Not to expensive
You can get a good innerspring that is as comfortable as you own bed for less than a foam "dog" bed.
I almost got one for my last dog but let him have the twin in the spare bedroom after he started snoring instead. He was old.

We found some at Costco for like 20 bucks for our bullmastiff...He's about 130lbs and likes it...At least its a good alternative for when mom and dad kick him off the bed or out of dad's bean bag chair.

Sometimes Costco has a rectangular foam dog bed, it's big enough that if I throw it in the corner of the room, both my ridgebacks (60-70lbs each) can sleep on it. I like the crib mattress idea, but I think it might be too weak for a 70lb dog?

I to was thinking about crib mattress idea - sounds good but can it hold up a 50++ pound dog over time? My lab likes to lay on her side and hang half her body off one end of her oval bed. Been thinking of a minnie Stearns & Foster since she seems to like mine so much ;)

They do have such a thing, seen it in a pet catlog. Crazy money, like $200-$300 for one

The lab and the mutt seem to like a king bed - right between the wife and I :)
The german shep. likes his big ol' LL Bean bed - although as he's gotten older, he spends more time on his waterbed - I think that came from Foster and Smith. I guess with no kids, it's easy to spoil our "kids"

Someone left a moving blanket in the kitchen, the dog plopped down on it and it's been hers ever since. Have one in the truck for her too. Works out pretty well, folded over twice it's plush and a good size but you can throw the whole thing in the washer.
