does this mean I will never run the Paris to Beijing Rally?

One of my long range goals has been to run a big international overland expedition. Paris to Peking, Perth to Sidney, Alaska to Argentina etc etc.

But in the short term I bought a FZJ80 gasser, installed a 4" lift, 35" tires, and now TRD has released a super charger.

Am I making short term decisions that one step @ at a time will eventually preclude international travel?

A supercharger will require you to run higher octane gas. Might be hard to find. Do a diesel swap.

x2 The 1st word on long distance travel in remote areas is reliabilty. The best way is to keep the vehicle as close to stock as practical.
You need suspension that can support the load and keep the handling at a safe level.
Raising the suspension more than needed makes rollovers much more easy.

For tyres, the best thing is some quality 750x16 light truck tyres with an AT or MT tread with tools to change your own
Once out of the cities in most countries,no one sells BFG,Coopers or any other soccer mom tyre.;)

There is 3 reasons why I would only take a diesel. The 1st is fuel economy and the fact that you can get 370 miles from a tank as opposed to 250 miles from gas.
The 2nd reason is that a diesel needs only very basic oil and filter changes for years and is not affected by wet conditions(within reason).
The 3rd id diesel fuel is almost foolproof. Only a complete and utter idiot could cause a fire with diesel:D
And I wouldnt consider any other diesel engine for a landcruiser than a Toyota;)

and by the way ,Sidney is Sydney:D

One of the most important things to consider with diesel, IMO,.. is to make sure you can burn anything (biodiesel etc)... you can always find something to run in that thing.

Everywhere I've been in the world.. you could always find some kind of oil/fatty product... and rendering is not that difficult to do.

Diesel IMO.. is the only way to go... but also.. don't get me started on the guys in this forum who believe they are conducting going into the bush.. with sinks,.. fridges,.. power everything... and think they are roughing it. In africa I saw the sorriest looking LCs held together with bailing wire... battery welded axles,.. and actually watched people rebuild a tranny on the side of the road... amazing really.

The one thing that has not been mentioned with regards to diesel is that most goods are transported by a diesel powered truck. Therefore no matter where you go you can likely find diesel. Even if cars are not common because the folks there are poor they still need goods transported by a diesel truck!
