If you are mainly in it for the camping and simple scenic wheeling then Flagpole Knob is JUST 6 hours away near Harrisonburg VA (at least from Columbus). GREAT mountain top camping and a good full days worth of trails if you want them!

Camping not out if you have hair on your nads. .. I just camped last night in the rain with only a tarp and a roaring fire. Some how I kept the fire going through the night.. I would have been screwed without it. Satchel get at me and we'll figure it out. Im always looking for guys to go do this type of stuff with. Most of my friends are married with children so they use that as their excuse to wimp out.. sad.

I'll be interested in some of that after I get my pile on the road. But I've got a long list of things to do before that can happen. Keep us posted.

Im probably down for it as well, but I dont have hairy enough nads for winter camping. Did that at the aforementioned mountains and woke up to single digits and I had what was probably a standard 50 degree bag. Brrrr.

Gear is the most important thing when winter camping. Knowing a little bit about physics and understanding your limits is of the utmost importance. I enjoy winter camping because im usually the only one around when I fo it. I have a lot of money invested in my gear and try and use it as often as possible. That helps justify it to the wife... see honey I told you I'd use this... and what not. Wish some of you local guys would buy some of my armor or a rack or two. Im running 20% off right till Christmas and you could come get it saving a bunch on shipping.

Satchel & underdawg, whereabouts you located? I would like to get back down to Hocking/vinton county for some exploring. We used to go there all the time, back when we still wheeled. Camping at Tar Hollow State park is nice in the off-season, because we're the only ones there usually. We camped at Lake Alma SP once, IIRC, also pretty empty.

Tar Hollow? I thought that area was closed down. When was the last time you wheeled there? About 10 yrs ago or more, a club I was a member of, went there & they all got tickets.

Tar hollow is a S.P. that is convenient for camping. There is no wheeling in a SP. The unmaintained township roads for wheeling are all to the east & south of the SP, going as far as a little east of Mcarthur.

They were on the unmaintained roads.

I'm in Cleveland. I'm down for winter camping, not sure the lady would though. I typically camp in my truck anyway, so weather doesn't matter too much. Or heck, even just wrenching on trucks sounds pretty great to me. Don't have any wrenching, wheeling people out here so it would be nice to get some guys together and have shop talk wherever it happens.

I have wrenching and a shop to talk in, but no people. I'm about a hour and half south east of Cleveland near PA line. And 45 minutes from Wellsville or 30 minutes from Hillsville for wheeling.

Looks like we have enough guys in the area interested in getting something going, so being that I'm new to the area and don't know squat, are any of you more knowledgeable guys down for a little trail ride sometime after the holidays? I'm free any weekend Jan 10th and after. Would be nice to meet up, so if any of you know of a place to go and a time you're free, I'm down to truck.

Sounds good. Ive been dicked up with this lupus crap for the past 4 days. Soon as I recover and get myself in order I'll be ready too. Get at me. Check out the Facebook page for updates on what I'm building and or up to.

I have always wanted to get up to the Wellsville area to wheel... It's just a haul from the Cincy area...
I'd be up for some wheeling around Tar Hollow... I always had a good time when we would go there years ago...

Thought I say hello, I'm located just south of pittsburgh and always looking for places to go camping or exploring. Unfortantly all I've found around here is people into going to bars instead of enjoying there trucks. I'm amazed to see people talking and wanting to use there trucks. Lol if anyone is around my area hit me up. Thanks
