1. By how much snorkel will improve car performance? Does anyone really feel the difference after installing it?

2.What is the best design of 70series snorkel- safari design,"mushroom" stock design or other brand available? You're welcome to share some pictures including custom made snorkel.

Anyway, 70 series do look cool after fitting a snorkel :p

Snorkels are not intended to improve engine performance (and they don't).

They are to allow you ti avoid sucking water into the engine during deeper water crossings. Some feel that they reduce dust intake in extreme conditions.

And many simply think they look cool and don't really ever need them for any real purpose anyway.

Mark...

Some manufacturers claim more HP due to a 'ram' effect or in plain English 'forcing more air in' but I'm not so sure. As Mark W says it's for fording. If you're going to get one be sure to make/buy a decent one, nothing worse than trusting your snorkel only to find you've hydraulic-ed your 1HZ cause it leaked. Any HP gains will be a bonus.

My 0.02c

no performance gain is achieved (i would suspect the opposite is probably truer).
dust and debris can be reduced and make the air filter last longer depending on the cap you have.
water fording is the main benefit IF installed properly and other issues are dealt with during installation.

cool factor is way up there for most.

i put them on my trucks for the "finished" look and on my off road trucks for river fording. as mentioned, engines are not cheap.

A Land Cruiser is " naked " without one. :D
Heck a snorkel even makes a Jeep look good which is quite a feat.

More hp? minimal, if any.
Looks? Indeed.
Design? Toyota's genuine snorkel.
Durability? Toyota's genuine snorkel.

Do not comromise especially if you are river fording.

I carry Toyota genuine snorkel. It may be a bit larger in size but surprisingly enough it is noise free.

Cheers

All hj75 has factory snorkel on it right?

i definately won't agree they are noise free ... depends on which side of the vehicle you are sitting on.

I love the "finished" look too, but how much noise it will generate?

Can you really hear the noise over the diesel rattle?
My snorkel blocks the airflow to the small vent window and renders it useless ( a minor issue I realize)

1hz engine does not rattle XD It growl!

if you have a turbo, the whine is noticable as well as the movement of air into the cap.
i am tall and sit on the right hand side and the truck is a open top 70, i notice it. not enough to bother me but enough to notice.

Well, the snorkel on my LC71 is fairly quite maybe because:

1. It is fitted on a V6 4.0L engine, and
2. Vehicle is a left hand drive while snorkel is fitted in the right side of the vehicle.

Cheers

does it come with a pre-filter in it?

No performance gains, fit a snorkel that meets your engine air requirements. The main function for me is keeping the dust out of the filter - as can be seen by the amount that my donaldson mushroom top collected, secondary is watercrossings (which is primary when in the water;) the falicy with water crossings is that a snorkel is enough when in fact it is no - the toyota airbox is not waterproof - make your own if you want to really keep the water out. here is my custom snorkel vid after I found the safari snorkel collapsing under full throttle:

if by "performance gains" you mean the ability to make people go out of their way to ask questions about it then yes it is component with a huge "performance gain"

:D

Hi Ishobie! I had watched several of ur videos before by typing "hzj79" in youtube.. All are great videos and great truck! The world is so small that I can even meet u here. haha =D

My engine is NA so does it gain enough oxygen without adding snorkel? I think the air box is not waterproof due to the dust catcher below the air box.

yes it is not waterproof, it will keep the water out for small crossings and that is it. Yes you would have no issues with a snorkel and your motor.

Thanks for watching my videos! I meet people all over the world because of the videos - it is fun!

Hello,

As others have already pointed out, do not expect power incresases.

Whatever model you choose, make sure it is water/air tight. Seal every joint of the piping. The braces are not enough to hold dirt or water out by themselves.

Get the air box that matches the snorkel or modify it accordingly.

It is amazing how much dust/dirt find its way through the joints (and into the engine) as they are set up from the factory.

Just my two cents.
