Do all Pigs have one?

No. In I think '78 or '79 they offered a heavy duty package (as told to me by Mark W years ago) that would offer either a 9 leaf rear spring pack, or a 5+ a diving board rear pack. Both the '79s I have owned had the 5+DB spring packs and no anti-sway bar, and both had stock suspension.

Edit: neither of them had tabs on the axles for the mounts either.

"It died on the freeway"

Yeah, and: "It's running a bit rough, just needs a tune-up". And "I couldn't find any rust on the thing, it's 99% rust free!"

My daughters '76 FJ55 has a stock sway bar in the rear.

My 73 has the rear sway bar. I have spent enough time under there the past few weeks to notice. The extra axle I bought also had one that came with it I think it came off of a 72 maybe.

My 74' has one, but it is lying in the back of the garage. The PO took it off to put on the 2.5" exhaust. Has anyone compared the ride of the truck with and without? I need to see if it would be worth putting it back on. Thanks, Hodag

My 69 has it and I don't think that I'll take it off. That thing scares me in the corners already

I've never persoanlly seen a Pig that didn't have a rear sway bar, or at least the remains (mounting points) where one used to be. If there is a axle from a '40 swapped in then there won'tbe any attachment points on the axle, but there should still be the frame side attachment points.

The rear springs changed in '79 but I'm not sure that they were really any "heavier duty", just a different configuration... 5 plus an overload. Brian, the 9 leaf you mention may be hazy memory from me talking about the 9 or 10 leaf springs I had in the rear of my '78. But they were not stock but were instead a homebuilt conglomeration.

That is funny stuff. Re-bar. No kidding? I wonder if I could make some tail light guards from re-bar? :)
Thanks

I like the nice bend in the drivers side - I guess it wasn't strong enough  You had to make me take a closer look ... another thing add this to the list of stuff to do :D

A failing memory could explain the springs, but I know the mounts weren't there on either '79 55s (I don't have the vins anymore either for exact dates. :frown: ) Me and the gas axe got real familier too with the red one.

Anyone else out there with a '79 FJ55?

my 78 fj55 has the sway bar, as does my 66 fj45LPV and 64 fj45LV.

I do think I have seen in non US parts books a fj40(maybe a 43) sway bar, but not in the US.

Have you ever seen the espn thing about the sleestack's they were played by like college bball players to make money and one of them was someone real famous like bill bradley maybe. Sorry for the tangent but I think we have gotten the idea that they all have the sway bar unless a PO did somethign to it.

i have seen alot of pigs, including both of mine, and they all have rear sway bars.

ridgerunner, there is a 79 local to me, i will have to go look at it again to see if theres a sway bar.

79 sway bar

I have a 79 pig that is all original. It does not have the sway bar or any of the mounts. I did have a 73 pig which had the sway bar.

Someone has been selling the sway bars on Ebay prettey regular lately. Claims they are new. Maybe from oz
