Do Aisin locking hubs fail?

I just installed a set of Aisin locking hubs as part of my part time conversion. Should i bother carrying the OEM non locking hubs on the trail incase i break a locking hub? I am running 35s and do moderate trails not anything like 40s on super hard trails...yet.

I couldn't get the hubs to turn on my fj62 one really cold morning so I grabbed the pliers to get more turning force and I actually broke the piece that turns on the inside of the hub.

Yes it happens. I've broken the hub gear. Carry a spare hub gear, most likely part to break I think.

Everything can break
Hub being the weak point must easier to carry a drive plate than a birf and axle.
