DIY Max Traxx Rear Tire Mount?

Recently Picked up a set of MaxTrax and I'm wondering if anyone else has mounted them on their rear spare tire without dropping $100.00.

Looking for a simply DIY kit as the kit online is just some straps and two hooks. Does anybody have a creative way to mount them on the spare? I know i'll have to run a cable through them to prevent theft. Not buying into the that marketing trick when 25 dollars of ratchet straps can do the job

That's what I'm going to try when they come in. I know their kit has metal posts that the boards rest on but the tension on the ratchet straps should be enough

A couple of straps works fine to hold them in place. I've done that several times.


However, it can bee a little tricky holding them in place while you tighten the straps. Not a big deal but definitely not as nice as the "hanger" designed for it. I'm looking at buying one or making my own. It helps to be able to set the Maxtrax on the hooks then tighten things up.

I ended up getting this to work with my rig with some straps from Walmart

I had to drag the Maxtrax in to make sure I got straps with the right size hook to ensure they wouldn't slip out. The ones I got are in the link below

Walmart also sells an outdoor cable in the home improvement section that you can use to lock them, in conjunction with a nice weatherproof lock
