Just got done with my first ever dizzy "adjustment." Only put on a new O-Ring, seal, rotor, and cap. Too bloody hot to do wires and plugs and I'm too darn tired. My question is how is the distributor supposed to look? When I took it out, it was black. My heart sank. I realize that the old O-ring was done miles ago b/c it was leakin' everywhere. But would a bad O-ring make the distributor look this black? Or do I need to clean the heck outta the engine?

Good to see that you got some of your work done today. I can attest to the fact that it was hot. The distributor does not look too bad. It looks like what I would imagine for 146K. I personally would not use an engine flusher. These flushing agents can knock loose too much buildup at one time. I would just use an oil with more cleaning agents (detergents) like the Delo oil and do 2000 mile change intervals.
