Howdy all. As a seasoned newbie (oxymoron eh?) I called my local Toyota Service and had them run my VIN to see about a HG repair or not. It didn't come back as being done. :meh: We then got on the topic of Production Date & such - the service tech didn't have much to say, and I was wondering about this quite heavily. This 80 has only been with me for a month, and is my labor of love to find out anything and everything I can about her. I bought her from a Mom & Pop dealer, who got it @ an auction - so not much history beyond that.

Here's my interest, I know what the K294 code is, and I think the A442F is the tranny code. But what about the rest? With it having a build date of 8/92 makes it like a REALLY EARLY '93 model. The Tech @ the Toyota dealer said that these mostly had Rear Main Seal leak rather than a HG issue. How true would this be?

1993 Toyota FZJ80

VIN: JT3DJ81W1P0012964 PRODUCTION DT: 08/92

C/TR 6M1/LB10 A/TM K294/A442F FZJ80L-GNPEKA

NO. 851

Does the No. 851 mean it was the 851st 93 model built, or is that something completely different?

All of your input is appreciated!

P.S. - I am willing to research this myself, but everytime I google VIN DECODER I can't find anything other than Carfax and the like. I haven't seen anything close to decoding the 1st gen. Toyota P/U's & Runners. That info is plentiful. So, if you have a link or something that would be cool!

Thanks BP! I hit that a while back, the only info it gives is the model, price and delivery charge. Not much else and it tells you to go through CARFAX to get a "more comprehensible' report. I don't think Carfax will provide all the info I am looking for, nd as others have stated - even if there was an accident, it may not even show on CarFax.

I'm not sure about on a 93, but my 96's production date is on the tag on the drivers door.

"Manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation 5/96" I'm deducing mine was born 5/96.

Yes, my born on date is on the Drivers door. All the above information is from that decal. I just was curious to the other stuff, and if the 8/92 is the first month of next year production model or what. Seems that Aug. of 1992 is pretty early for a 1993 model year - but, what was the sold date? Did it ship here 9/92 and sell 11/92? When do they switch? 6/92, 7/92 or 8/92 for the 1993 model year sales. Little things like that is what I ponder.

Howdy!
I bought to two weeks ago a 1993 TLC :bounce:and mine after door decal was born on 06/93 NO 189 ( C/TR 6M1/FF40 A/TM K294/A 442f FZJ80-GNPEKA). I believe the NO 851 is the TLC production no. Will be nice to find how many where build in 1992.. I know in 1993 where build for USA 8.000 plus FZJ80. But this will count the late 1992 production?! Because if they build just 189 TLC in 1993 until June, will not be true that number of 8.000 + TLC made for USA market in 1993 :hmm:.
I hope this 189 number will qualify my TLC to have that famous Toyota HD 4 tone TM :). But, is looking like yours is 100% in on early modells.
Let me know if you find any info. Thanks to everybody for helping out.

The "P" in the 8th digit comfirms the 93 model year. It can change from manufacturer and year to year on the month that the next model year will come out. Mostly mid-year change over even though some recent major facelifted Toyota models even were produced very early 2009 were sold as 2010 units.

The DOFU (date of first use) from the dealer can tell you when it was sold if you are curious.

C/TR 6M1/FF40 is your colour code (6M1) and trim code (FF40).
A/TM K294/A442F is your axle code (K294) and transmission code (A442F).
FZJ80L-GNPEKA is explained below.
As far as the VIN goes, the J at the beginning means made in Japan. I forget what everything else means. Cruiserdan would know. He knows everything ;)

Still morning for the folks stateside. ;)

Your rig will have a info tag in the engine compartment. Get that information, + your VIN and post it here and we can give you a good idea of the information.
