I am having no luck finding the 50mm spindle nut socket I need to pull my axle. Nobody close carries it, and nobody will be able to get it in for something reasonable. I could pay a fortune for one, but I am going for disks, so I would at most use the socket twice ever. I read about welding in the flats into a 2" pipe but I haven't gotten a welder yet.
As a long shot, is there anyone who has one that might send theirs to me? I will use it and then send it right back. I just got my first 40, so I haven't been on here long, but I am an honest person and will return it to you in the shape it comes to me. Shipping would of course be covered by me. I have posted local too, so we'll see if anything turns up.
Let me know. And thanks

You can use a chisel in a pinch, especially if you'll be changing to discs soon.

Really? I guess I would have to sharpen mine to give it the ability to bite in. I was also picturing using a big pipe wrench, but it would similarly mar the nut. I think the correct torque is like 80 lbs. so it won't come off easy.

Odds on when you remove the lock out body from the wheel bearing hub you will find the spindle nuts marred up from someone using a chisel on them previously as many folks do not always have the correct tool for the job at hand....

:meh:

all you need to do is find your local Snap-On dealer, and he should have what you are looking for

The correct socket is actually pretty reasonable from Snap On, as I recall, I paid ~$25 for mine.

marlin crawler always has them in stock; i usually stock them as well.

SEARS

I've heard of people making one out an exhaust pipe reducer. Pick the right size and hammer the sides flat. On the other end drill two half inch holes on opposite sides and find a bar to turn it.

I bought one from Specter Off Road (sor.com) about 12 years ago... but I'm sure they still have them.

Check out: http://www.sor.com/sor/cat200.tam?xax=29744&page.ctx=cat200.tam

you can buy one or fabricate one.

Hammer and chisel works just fine.

50mm drum brakes if I recall correct. I have both drum and disc sockets. Problem is I am traveling at this time. PM me maybe we can work something out this weekend. :grinpimp:

Thanks guys. I did wind up finding one from a member off risingsun.com. The community kicks ass. Sadly though when I pulled the axle I did find that indeed I have ball and claw. Bummer.
Now I need to grab some fine spline axles on the cheap to have disks.

Post up on the RS site again as I know there are spare axles around a plenty. I have a couple but your search for "cheap" kinda spooks me! "Trade", "someone have to sell", "need to find", etc... would be better terms to find possibilities! Glad I could help with the socket!
