Hi

I'm insatlling an air locker on the rear of a '96 and was wondering if anyone could help with the following:

1. ring carrier torque?

2. bearing caps torque?

3. diff preload?

4. Im running 4.88 PG gears, should I set the backlash to PG's backlash setting or the FSM's?

5. FSM's R&P backlash spec?

6. third member torque spec?

7. I noticed some graphite looking grease near the clutch ring, do I need to grease any part of the locker before assembly?

thanks

Check out this web site: www.gearinstalls.com
Lots of good pics, don't think there are any air locker references though. :D

If your talking about the nuts holding the 3rdmember into the housing via the studs from the housing its 54lbs on my 93 FZJ80

yeah thats it.... thanks .... got one down... six more to go... anyone?

1. ring carrier torque? Torque: 110 N·m (1,125 kgf·cm, 81 ft·lbf)

2. bearing caps torque? Torque:78 N·m (800 kgf·cm, 58 ft·lbf)

3. diff preload?
New bearing
1.3 – 2.0 N·m (13 – 20 kgf·cm, 11.3 – 17.4 in.·lbf)
Reused bearing
0.7 – 1.0 N·m (7 – 10 kgf·cm, 6.1 – 8.7 in.·lbf)

4. Im running 4.88 PG gears, should I set the backlash to PG's backlash setting or the FSM's?

5. FSM's R&P backlash spec? Backlash: 0.15 – 0.20 mm (0.0059 – 0.0079 in.)

6. third member torque spec? Torque: 73 N·m (740 kgf·cm, 54 ft·lbf)

Zul's site works for me, great site tons of pix and hints.

I truly appreciate this man ... you saved my day ... its really hard to get info like this where I live ... local shops dont even know what an FSM is ... THANKS!

regarding the backlash isssue I guess my best bet is to do it by ''feel'' ... using prusian blue...

who is ZUL?

FYI just an update to this thread, nuts that hold diff to housing on the front of a 1996 are 20# of torque NOT 54!

Are you referring to these nuts? I am wondering if the torque spec is 54 or 20 ft/lbs.
