Can someone please tell me what exactly this button does in the 100 LC. Can you also tell when would be a good time to use it as well as any other knowledge you may have, Thanks

Locks the transfer case...use it when other methods aren't working to get u unstuck.

That is the basic answer...there are tons of threads and differing opinions on when people activate/use it.

Don't use it when you have good traction I.e. dry roads.

It sends equal power to the front and rear axle.

It will lock your front and rear thus sending 50% power to the rear and 50% power to the front.
Best way of use is to lock it when going 4wd-ing. This will reduce track damage. If you are stuck and use it, you are too late.

Btw, it does not lock your diffs!!!
So if you are stuck with one front wheel up in the air, all power will go to that wheel and you will go nowhere.
But you might still have traction at the rear which will puh you out.

Thanks, and I didn't have the manual.

You can download manuals from Toyota website. My 06 didn't come with one and the NAV had some quirky behavior I couldn't figure out until I downloaded it.

The center diff locked is just like high range 4wd in a legacy system (in poor traction at least one front and one rear wheel will be driven).
Center diff open is 'all wheel drive' (which in the absence of traction = 1 wheel driven at all times).

The owners manuals are easy to find on the interwebs.

You would use it if you are about to get into a potential stuck situation. You should not be driving faster than 5-10 mph while using it.

Where are you getting 5-10mph from? I've driven 45-60mph in sand with the center diff locked in high.
Totally agree. I've done loose gravel much faster than 5-10mph with center diff locked. If you aren't experience drive train binding (too much traction), I'm not sure speed has anything to do with center diff lock functionality.
