Different/better(?) inner CV boot (1 Viewer)

I’m working on a front CV axle project for another vehicle that is utilizing UZJ100 front axle units. The inner 100 boot, as I’m sure many of you are familiar with, is a soft pliable rubber... my preference is the harder thermoplastic boots (years of ATV boots vs sticks). Is there a go to that I’m missing in the search? The new 2022 Tundra w/ off-road package has the pictured boots, which are designed (hopefully) for longer travel and more severe angles. Size seems to be spot on for the inner 100 joint and axle shaft. Thoughts?

I like the idea. I've moved in better boots on a different product to build better CV. I need to swap CV axles soon and have a chance to do something like.

Is there any enhanced boots for the outer joint?

I'm seeing this kit for about $25-$30 from the online Toyota parts sites.

Can you confirm what comes in the kit? Do both boots fit?

I'm assuming no grease at this price.

I have not checked out the complete kit, so the outer boot in an unknown, though it’s possible it may fit.

The inner kit has clamps, inner clip, and grease. Grease is moly based, not the brown/yellow that comes w/ the 100 kit. The big clamp is a pinch snug when fitting up.

After looking closer at the kits I realized it was just the inner boot for that part number. I've rebuilt mine (not too long ago) with OEM but ripped one again so I'm looking at alternatives.

Giving this a try. This is what I know so far. The boot will fit as OP suggested, there are some caveats to that. I'll try to point them out below. I'm replacing a torn inner boot that lasted about 1 1/2 years since I rebuilt them.

Here is what comes in the kit:

A comparison of the snap ring used inside. The original I have from the OEM Land Cruiser version is thicker (it is on the right in the picture below). I used it again.

A comparison of the large ring that holds the tulip in (new one is on the left). They looked exactly the same. I used the new one from the new kit.

There are differences inside the boots. The original Land Cruiser version matches up perfect to the cv axle, obviously, so there is a tight seal. Check these comparisons of the inside:

Final thoughts:

The boot fits pretty good on the larger side, there is an outer ridge that "snaps" in place and it feels like a solid fit. The smaller diameter side is loose on installation. You can move it back and forth before clamping and there isn't an exact ridge or set of ridges that matches up. I'm not sure the included clamps would work, they might but I kept the rounded edge McMaster Carr clamps. I actually used 2 new ones for the test.

My initial impressions are that you can crank down these McMaster Carr clamps to make up for any looseness in the small side, since the boots are much harder and not the soft rubber that the Land Cruiser version was.

I've only got a few miles on them but I'll update back here with any major news good or bad.

One other thing I should mention is the grease. It's obviously not the same as the Land Cruiser boot kit. And.. there is much less of it. I feel like it was enough to work properly but not nearly as much as the Land Cruiser kit. I would have used the regular white/cream colored stuff if I would have had any. Something to think about.

The boots are still working fine for me. No issues, no rips, no leaks.
