Im looking to restore my 77 fj40 .. but i need a new tub - top - doors etc. i found everything i might need but its from a 71 fj40. please let me know if this can be modified to look like or be a 77.. how many problems would i run into?? any info would be appreciated!... thanks in advance

I had to cut a little out of the transmission opening(not the hump) to allow room for the Passenger-side slave cylinder to fit and operate properly. That is all.:)

I am assuming between that and the gas door maybe it??

71 has no radio cut out, it has provisions for the bench seat not buckets, has the rear floor PTO hump, so tranny hump covers are different, long jump seat mounting points, no rollbar mounting points, rear swing doors not amby doors. So that leads to differences in the hard tops as well. Key on dash in 71, on steering wheel in 77, dash layout is a bit different as well.

Hi All:

"Greek" is right, there are many small differences between the 1971 and 77 40 Series, but the tub is interchangeable - the rear 2/3s of the tub on my rig is from a '68, while the front 1/3 is the original '74 sheet metal.

So, if you are just building a functional rig, no worries. But if the goal is a true restoration to as new condition, the '71 tub may not be the best choice.

A nice thing about the older tubs is how thick the sheet metal is. Much thicker than the later year '40s.

Good luck!

Alan
