That takes care of the transfer case, but not the pumpkins.

That's becuase I'm a moron who can't read straight. There is a diff. in there though

What is the 'softest" part of our diffs? Is it just the area where the ring gear resides? I mean, it makes sense just to protect that part and not the whole diff as shown on Marlin's site. This way, you're saving on a little bit of unsprung weight.

How about a good spotter as opposed to using braile?........

Heh...

I have been operating vehicles off-road for over 30 years and I have spanked more than my share of odd chassis bits on nasty rocks. Many of those impacts could have been avoided by excercising greater care or having an extra set of skilled eyes available.

I don't disagree that MOST stuff can be avoided. But it is nice to have the insurance incase you have no choice.

I saw once where a guy cut the bottom part of his axle housing off and welded in steel plate that wrapped up the front of the housing. He then took the bottom studs out of the diff and replaced them with bolts, allowing him to drain the diff through those two holes. Gave him a nice smooth surface on the bottom to scrape on stuff, a nice heavy protection on the front and a good amount more clearance. This was on an 8" axle.

You haven't run on one of CruiserDrew's high-speed Rubicon runs yet :D
Unless it's a major obstacle, most times it's "every man for himself".

That said, most of my trail braille experience was from my first trip on the 'con. At the time, I didn't know how green I really was.

I'm a lot more careful now...I have come to accept that I'm still pretty green :)

I've wheeled with Drew and I look forward to an extended trip with him and Alvaro and whoever else shows for pre-CM05 in May...:D I have also admired "isngdanglifl" e artsbis allwe....:e..:ek

Unfortunately, I don't think I can make the pre-CM05 run. It sounds like fun though.

I think he's still sporting that bit of Hell's Gate rash on his flare. Just about made me jump when I saw him do that  I would've sworn he took out the entire rear quarter panel the way he dropped. Thankfully it was "only" the flare.

What if the extra set of eyes is spotting through shrinkwrap?

A really great driver prolly doens't need sliders, lockers, bumpers, winch and tires but alas, we're merely mortals here :D

The only diff cover I have found was for the front and was at allpro off road.
