Diesel Tank Air Sucking

Hi all,

upon a recent trip across Australia my HJ 61 turbo diesel started to get a bit lumpy on tick over and when I undo the filler cap there is a sucking of air into the tank.

any hints please

Well.....dont know what Lumpy, or tick means....
Is it a new cap? Is it vented.......or are the vents cloged?

Does indeed sound like what ever a diesel tank uses for it's vent, is clogged.

Same thing was happening on my old rusty BJ70. I removed and replaced most, if not all lines from the fuel filter back until it was running right. My final option and least favorite was to drop the tank, and sure enough it was the intake tube at the flange (on the tank) that was rusted with a little pin hole sucking in air. Made up a new flange and tube & voila, problem solved!

Solved the problem there was a blocked hose in the fuel evaporator assembly
