Been out for a drive in my newly converted 1HD-FT 40 and apart from the gearbox needing a rebuild am very pleased, trying to find all the niggles before I send it back to the shop. Turned the key off and the engine has a bit of a spluttery run on for 5/6 seconds before it shuts off. I would be happy to hear all comments on causes and remedies.

Many thanks
Bob

I'd be looking at sourcing a new fuel-cut solenoid. It's on your IP and when the solenoid gets 12V power (this happens when you turn the key on before starting), it opens a plunger which allows fuel to flow through the IP. The plunger has a rubber "seat" that seals everything off. If the solenoid you currently have is weak or the rubber on the seat is worn, I'd expect you might experience the problem you're describing. It shouldn't "run on" at all when you turn the key off.

Will do, seems to work fine once its been driven for a bit but on a short trip to the woods or the shop its a stuttering bugger.

Was the engine originally a 12v or 24v. I'm wondering if its a 24v solenoid and struggling with 12V.

You can disconnect it from the wire that goes to the solenoid and use a jumper wire to activate the solenoid. It should give you an audible click. I'm not sure if you can remove it and watch it open/close. You probably could if it was earthed.
It could also be full of glop.

Ehhh, mine was originally a 24V UK version and the solenoid is running 12V now and it works fine. You're right tho, it should be a very audible "click" as the solenoid opens

The only part of a 1HD-FT that was 24 volt was the starter all other bits are 12 volt. I would pull the solenoid out and check that the plunger and spring are clean and move freely.
