Hello! Looking to possibly trade my Mustang for an FJ40. Came across one with a diesel engine. It is a 1964 year model FJ40. Can anyone help identify the engine for me?

Thanks in advance for the help!

This is a 4 cyl "B" series diesel.. B or 2B .. not sure which. Suspect "B".. as fitted to the BJ40s

I agree with b not a 3b and can we get a pic of the truck. Probably a South American import and if that’s the case then it most likely will be a can of works with “fun” bush fixes all over.

Sweet ride! The little B Diesels are proven performers, you wont go anywhere fast but you'll get there and back every time if you look after this engine!

Looks like there's multiple years involved.

There is a lot going on there.. definitely take a magnet to it all over. That’s a late model windshield and wipers, rubber bumper stops(classic import thing). Does it have heater?Undercarriage and interior front and back floors will tell the story. Have you looked at it in person? If you are going to trade then definitely make sure you look in person so no “surprises “ as everyone has a different view of terms like “runs great” “restored” etc. if you post more pics that will help the group help you make a good purchase.

The mustang looks like a nice ride. Have you ever driven or rode in a 40? You might not like it. What's your intended use? We need to see all around pics, inside and out too. Is it a dealer or importer?

That’s a nice looking Mustang!!!! If it looks as good as the exterior does underneath and interior I think you might be getting the shorter stick in the trade

I have ridden in an FJ40. The FJ is at a dealer. I think I am going to pass on this one thanks to the advice on here. Wait until another comes up that is closer and doesn’t have any red flags.

The mustang is rust free and is nice inside and out.

Thank you all for the replies and the help!

That sounds like a great choice. Especially since it’s at a dealer.. This forum will help you avoid possible nightmare rigs…
