I am not sure where to post this thread.

This isn't an for sale ad at this point and I am posting here because I am pretty sure the diesel badge in question is unique to the 70 series (correct me if I am wrong). If it turns into a thread where they get reproduced and offered for sale, then I will ask for it to be moved to classifieds.

I reached out to @bhicks during my quest to see if I could get this badge reproduced since it is no longer available from Toyota as far I know. I did check through @Onur and if he says it is NLA then it is.

I got a new grill for my 77 and while attempting to transfer the 'diesel' badge over, the plastic was so brittle where the screws go, it just crumbled. Again it is NLA so looking at options here.

I could probably get one made locally but I thought I would support a mud vendor first.

@bhicks says that He would need to make at least 20 of them to break even on a project like this. This is an good opportunity to get one or two of these badges since I know many of you 70 series owners have this grill and possibly at some point your own plastic 'diesel' badge could suffer the same fate as my own.

This badge is p/n 75311-60050

and is used on the following grill style with the two mounting holes. They usually come in either chrome or grey as far I know. I was changing mine from the original chrome to a new grey one.

Looks like we are getting some interest. Odd Iron Offroad reached out to me and said they would be interested. Beno seems interested and the op isvery interested. Looks like were already 1/2 to the 20 piece minimum for me to make a run. @FJ73Texas is willing to ship me an OEM badge to pull dimensions from. I can make a replica badge but it will be solid machined aluminum and not plastic like OEM. Will be in the $40 a piece range.

What Onur said is true. The ones I am seeing offered as reproductions in various ads posted here don't use the mounting style shown in my first post. They all seem to be flat.

Would these mount with posts (OEM style), or using VHB tape like your other fine offerings?

I'm not sure yet. We can machine the posts into the design if needed but i would like to get a cost difference from my machinist before I commit to one approach or another. Do the posts sit up flush to the grille or do they actually slide into the holes on the grille? Cutting some tapped holes on the back of the badge is pretty easy but if the posts protrude past the back of the badge and into the grille then were talking about a much thicker piece of aluminum we ave to cut from and a LOT more machining time.

The posts just slide into the holes on the grill. Screws have a flat head that will sit on the inside mounting surface.

Here are some pics to try to show what I am talking about. The screws are not very long. About 10mm or so.

Anyone else interested in this badge being made?

Again this part is NLA (Obsolete) so this is an opportunity to get one as close to OEM if you have the same grill as me.

The only used examples I can find for sale are the 2 or 3 on the Japan auction sites and they are selling for around $100 each which is a lot to gamble with 30+ year old plastic.

So far I have the following people interested but qty each is not firm yet and depends on pricing I guess.

1. Onur
2. paul r
3. Odd Iron Offroad
4. FJ73Texas (myself)

Although I don't really need one, if it's a matter of meeting a minimum order, I'll take 1.

I appreciate that Charles. I will give the thread a bit longer to see if we hit that magic number of 20+.

I'd say let this percolate for awhile. You are going to need more folks with the newer style grilles to be aware that their badge is damaged or worn.

Give it time. Just keep bumping it every week. :)

Good idea...

I saw a couple used ones come up in the Japan ads but I can't justify paying over 10,000 yen for 30+ year old used plastic which is what they are asking, not even counting the cost to get it here. I guess they are scarce over there also.

Would they work with double-sided tape and if so, I assume that might lower the fabrication cost?

I guess that is more of an question for @bhicks. Ideally, it would be nice to have them with posts like the original but I don't know what all is involved in the fabrication process.

I need an OEM badge in my hands to be able to accurately answer that question. Post for screws will probably increase the machining time and material which will increase cost but I'm not sure how much. I need the OEM part and can then sit down with my machinist to figure out cost for both options (3M adhesive vs. threaded posts).
